In a recent Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) session, Namita Thapar,?Executive Director (India Business) of Emcure Pharmaceuticals?and judge on Shark Tank India faced criticism attributing her success solely to inherited wealth.??
When a user questioned Namita Thapar during the AMA, she gave a firm but courteous response, asking where she would be without "daddy's money."?Namita Thapar replied, "I am a CA (first attempt)...MBA ...fantastic credentials ...I'm sure I would do just fine even without daddy money my friend!"?
Many other Reddit users agreed, challenging Thapar's eligibility for the title of "entrepreneur" in light of her involvement with a family business.?"You didn't build your own business so how do you give advice to others building their OWN business?" asked one person.
"Scaling a family business requires an entrepreneurial mindset too," Thapar responded.
While she keeps facing criticism from some users on social media, one thing that can't be denied is that Namita Thapar is among the very few Shark Tank India judges whose company is in profit.?
Not only had?Emcure?Pharma posted a Rs 160 crore?(Rs 1600 million) profit in FY23 and a revenue of Rs 3107 crore, but it is now also planning to go public soon. Namita had revealed?
earlier this year that the company plans to launch its IPO within three months, saying "We're going to go public in 3 months so watch out for that big IPO".?The company is reportedly targeting a?valuation of about $3 billion.
