Before Electric Bikes, Ducati Will Make Electric Scooters Thanks To A New Partnership

Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali had earlier confirmed an upcoming all-electric superbike for the Italian auto major¡¯s portfolio. Though it seems now that the company has spun towards an entirely different electric vehicle than its core products and the one in question now, is a premium electric scooter!

You read that right. A recent announcement by Vmoto, a China-based electric two-wheeler manufacturer, mentions a newly forms licensing agreement with, you guessed it, Ducati. The agreement is to produce all-electric premium scooters as ¡°official products under the license of Ducati¡±.

Since Ducati is involved, we cannot expect things to be ordinary. So the CUx scooters will not be like any other and instead will be a luxury version which will be sold at a premium price of course.

As for the roles to be played by the two new partners in this agreement, Ducati will be responsible for the marketing of the CUx electric scooters under its own branding while Vmoto will be taking care of the distribution and sales.

To date, the CUx electric scooters have been marketed under the Super SOCO brand, a subsidiary of Vmoto.They feature a 2.8 kW (3.75 hp) Bosch hub motor that churns out a top speed of 45 km/h. The CUx electric scooters claim a range of 75 km on a single charge of a 1.8 kWh battery pack.

Their top speed is limited as the e-scooters are meant to be an urban commute, meaning more and more regulations to be met as the top speed increases. So the company decided to avoid the hassle, it seems. Interestingly, the ¨¦-scooters come with a front facing camera that can serve as a dash cam or for social media sharing.

Ducati had earlier come up with an electric mountain bike called the Mig-RR. So it does not really come as a surprise as the Italian bike maker tries to foray from its core line of vehicles.
