Tata Motors Ziptron Is The New In-House Electric Car Platform Made Especially For India
Tata Motors is one of the few OEMs to offer an electric car in the Indian market. The company now plans to build on this further and its recent developments have been a proof of that. After announcing a lineup of its future electric cars to be launched in India, Tata Motors has now unveiled a dedicated platform for the production of these electric cars.
Named ¡®Ziptron¡¯, the new EV technology platform will be first used by Tata Motors in its upcoming electric car slated for an early 2020 launch. The company claims that a team of 350 engineers worked on building the technology, specifically for use in India. For this, the team kept in mind the Indian climatic and traffic conditions, while trying to resolve the issues surrounding EVs like a limited range and performance.
This will be backed by a lithium-ion battery that features liquid cooling for maintaining the ideal temperature as well as IP67 rating for waterproofing and dust protection. This would also ensure that factors like extreme temperature and prolonged use would not hamper the performance of the battery.

As of now, the company has not revealed a number for the range which can be expected out of the battery. As per an Autocar report though, a minimum of 250 km run on a single charge can be expected out of it. The battery pack will be a part of an electric vehicle built from the ground up and will come with a standard eight-year warranty, just as the electric motor of the vehicle.
Talking about the electric motor, Ziptron will use a high-voltage 300V-plus permanent magnet synchronous electric motor and will support different driving modes for varied performances of the vehicle.
Tata Motors claims to have tested the technology for around 1 million km during its development. In addition to it, the company will also be bringing connected vehicle technology as a part of its upcoming electric cars for monitoring their health, status and more.
Earlier, Tata Motors announced that it will be bringing five electric vehicles in the Indian market within the next 12-18 months. As and when they start rolling out, Ziptron will be more in focus and only then can we comment upon whether Tata Motors is on point with the Ziptron or not.
