Holiday season around, heatwave getting onto you and need a budget friendly place? Please skip the usual Dubai and Thailand for your night life scenes, and choose Hong Kong as your next party destination.
Still searching for an international party destination that won't break the bank this holiday season? Skip the usual Dubai and Thailand nightlife scenes and consider Hong Kong with your group of friends. I recently visited Hong Kong in the second week of May and had an absolutely fantastic time. With just a 5-hour, 30-minute flight from New Delhi, you are only 6 hours away from all the excitement. Once you touch down the vibrant city, get ready for a magical experience.
Without further ado, let me introduce you to the 9 coolest pubs, bars, and restaurants that made me wonder why I hadn't visited Hong Kong sooner! Take a look.
(Disclaimer: This article is not sponsored, and I personally visited each and every place listed below, thoroughly enjoying my experience at each one.)
1. ALTO Steakhouse
Instead of opting for the Big Bus tour, head to ALTO instead for the ultimate view of Hong Kong and the harbor front. It gets better if you go at night for a drink. ALTO has the most breathtaking skyline and champagne options. Make sure you get a reservation to get the best table for the best view. You'll find this gem located at Causeway Bay.
2. Quinary
Situated on Hollywood Road in Central, Quinary has consistently earned a spot in the prestigious 50 Best Bars list from 2013 to 2017 and again in 2021. Additionally, it has been recognized among Asia's top bars until 2022. Quinary is a multisensory experience. Female bartenders, trendy music and epic cocktail presentations makes this a must go for cocktail enthusiasts.
3. Oolaa
Warm and inviting, Oolaa is ideal for indulging in those leisurely brunch days. Don't miss out on their delightful mimosas¡ªthey're a must-try! The place offers friendly, efficient service that customers absolutely love. The delicious food served in a laid-back environment makes this a frequent stop, even for people just visiting Hong Kong.
4. Amalfitana at Repulse Bay Beach
As an island, Hong Kong boasts some of the coolest beaches around. Among them, Repulse Bay Beach stands out for its cleanliness and relative lack of crowds. Alongside the beach, there's a row of restaurants, with Amalfitana taking the top spot. Known for their incredible margaritas, it's the perfect spot to unwind on a summer evening. I also spotted what seemed to be a gecko or chameleon being taken for a walk on a leash by its human owners.
Gulp, Hong Kong can get quite interesting.
5. Shady Acres
OH MY GOD! What a find. Shady Acres is a hidden gem in Hong Kong Central. The whole Peel Street in Central has some amazing drinking bars but Shady Acres is a dainty little bar tucked away in a corner serving the most delicious spiked frozen slushies. Their friendly service will have visitors returning for another late night round.
6. El Taquero
Nestled in Wan Chai, El Taquero is renowned for its exceptional Mexican cuisine and margaritas¡ªan unbeatable combination. Indulge in authentic taco flavors and delightful cocktails to satisfy your cravings.
7. The Iron Fairies
Situated again on Hollywood Road, this jazz club boasts a mesmerizing ambiance, complete with preserved butterflies adorning the ceiling, dim lighting, and iron fairies gracing your table. With live music and an array of fantastic cocktails, it's truly a magical destination for entertainment. Gradually, the place transitions to a lively dancing atmosphere.
8. Tell Camilla
One of Hong Kong's most premier bars location in the hidden lanes of Central. Tell Camilla creates cocktails based on teas from all around the world by using modern and unique techniques like distillation and centrifugation. Just watching bartenders skillfully blend ingredients to craft exceptional drinks is a sight to behold. Needless to say, it features in Asia's best bars.
9. The Dispensary
Situated on the first floor of the historic Police Headquarters Block, The Dispensary Bar offers an ideal setting for enjoying evening cocktails or indulging in a leisurely afternoon tea. There's an open area overlooking all the activities happening around. Make sure you secure a balcony seat to unwind and savor the ambiance, with a drink in your hand.
And for those who prefer not to indulge in alcohol and are in search of the hippest places can still visit these places for great food and cocktails. But if you are looking for the most amazing coffee and brioche joints, don't miss out on Sourdough and Bakehouse.
Hong Kong offers affordable travel options, but it's not necessarily the prime destination for budget or street shopping (which I learnt after visiting Hong Kong). It's distinct from mainland China in that regard. Instead, Hong Kong is renowned for its luxury shopping scene, particularly for sneakers like Adidas and Onitsuka Tiger.
