While we were all still reeling from Sidhu Moose Wala's murder, the news of renowned Bollywood singer KK leaving this world came cracking down. Within a week, the music industry lost two gems and the loss is all to great to bear.
Amidst this, a video of Bengali singer Rupankar Bagchi is doing rounds on the internet in which he is seen passing negative remarks on KK. Speaking in Bengali, Bagchi says that singers hailing from Kolkata can sing 'better than KK' and questions why there is no hype around them.
An HT reports quotes the singer saying in Bengali, "I got to know through Facebook that the one and only KK was in Kolkata for a show and there has been a lot of excitement about it.¡± Comparing KK¡¯s performance, he named Kolkata-based artistes and bands and added, ¡°I have seen videos of mine, Anupam Roy, Somata, Emaan Chakraborty, Ujjaini Mukherjee, Cactus, Fossils, Rupam Islam and others. I think we all sing better than KK, why do you not get excited about us? What is the reason?"
He further adds, "Who is KK? We are better than any K. All the singers I have mentioned are far far better than Mr KK. Be a Bengali guys please."
Rupankar was addressing people by hosting a live session on Facebook, hours before KK's sudden death in Kolkata.
Fans are schooling the Bengali singer over his remarks and are telling him to respect artists.
"The things is Rupankar is a frustrated and sadist fellow i guess...Your statement is a blot on the creative community in Bengal... U guys r better or not will only b judged by public who hear u....Lets have a vote in Bengal with u and KK, Mohit Chauhan, Anupam Roy...???what do u think.," a fan wrote in the comments section of the video of the live stream shared on YouTube.
Here are other reactions:
KK was the voice behind some of the best songs in Bollywood and formed a major part of childhood for every 90s kid out there. Right from celebrating the spirit of friendship with 'Yaaron Dosti' to celebrating love with Tu Aashiqui Hai from Jhankaar Beats, we all have emotions and memories attached to the late singer's songs. He died of a heart attack shortly after performing a concert in Kolkata and his death has left a void that will never really be filled.
