After the breakout success of Netflix's acclaimed series Adolescence, director Philip Barantini is stepping into his next big project. The team behind Enola Holmes has officially confirmed that the beloved franchise is returning for a third installment, with Barantini joining as the director.
Enola Holmes: A recap
Enola Holmes is a 2020 mystery-adventure film that follows Enola, the clever and bold teenage sister of popular detective Sherlock Holmes.
Played by Millie Bobby Brownm, who also produced the film, Enola sets off on a journey to find her missing mother, Eudoria Holmes (Helena Bonham Carter).
As she navigates the busy streets of Victorian London, she becomes involved in a plot surrounding a young viscount, Lord Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge), all while staying one step ahead of her famous brother Sherlock (Henry Cavill) and their strict older brother Mycroft (Sam Claflin).
The film was directed by Harry Bradbeer and written by Jack Thorne, and is based on the first book in The Enola Holmes Mysteries by Nancy Springer.
Enola Holmes 3: What to expect
Filming for Enola Holmes 3 is currently underway in the UK, as per industry updates.
The new chapter is expected to take on a darker tone, similar to how the Harry Potter series matured over time.
In the final stages of production, the team is expected to shift locations to Malta.
Although there's no official word yet, it's rumoured that Henry Cavill, Louis Partridge, and Helena Bonham Carter might reprise their roles.
On the production side, Mary Parent, Ali Mendes, and Alex Garcia are returning as producers for Legendary Entertainment.
Millie Bobby Brown and her sister Paige Brown are also producing through their company, PCMA Productions, with Jake Bongiovi and Isobel Richards on board as executive producers.
