About Usha Mehta
Usha Mehta was famed for starting Congress Radio, also known as the Secret Congress Radio. She received the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian honour bestowed by the Indian government, in 1998.
During such a pivotal moment in India's struggle for independence from British colonial authority, it was a force to be reckoned with. She was a deserving citizen and a product of the movement, having lived 80 good years throughout the Gandhian Era.
Usha, at eight years old, screamed her first anti-British Raj protest, "Simon Go Back," during a march against the Simon Commission in 1928. She took part in early-morning picketing in front of liquor stores and demonstrations against the British Raj.
Usha was strongly impacted by Gandhi as a child and later joined his movement. She decided at a young age to live a life of celibacy and adopted a spartan, Gandhian lifestyle, wearing simply Khadi clothing and avoiding all forms of luxury. She became a well-known proponent for Gandhian philosophy over time.
Usha and a few of her close friends launched the Secret Congress Radio, a secret radio station, on August 14, 1942. In addition, it debuted on August 27.
Gandhi and other well-known leaders from all throughout India sent messages that were broadcast on the radio. The station's location was changed practically everyday by the organisers in an attempt to escape the law.
On November 12, 1942, the police eventually located them and detained the organisers, including Usha Mehta. All of them ended up in jail.
In 1935, she performed among the top 25 students in her matriculation exam, also known as the Class 10 exam. Mehta excelled in debate and elocution at Wilson College and was a four-language native speaker (fluent in English, Gujarati, Hindi, and Marathi).
Under the second Congress administration in the state, she was the first political prisoner to be released in the Bombay province on the orders of Home Minister Moraji Desai. Mehta thereafter turned away from politics and towards education.
Her Last Few Years:
She was very interested in education and the role of women in society, and she had close ties to the Shrimati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women's University in Bombay, the Gujarat Administrative Reforms Committee, and the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Usha Mehta devoted the final twenty years of her life to the Mani Bhavan Gandhi Sangrahalaya, where she later rose to the position of president and was named the Bombay Gandhi Smarak Nidhi.
Ae Watan Mere Watan teaser:
The teaser for the movie has sparked debates about her character, the project she will be working on, and many other topics. She closes the drapes and plugs wires into her radio transmitting equipment in the teaser's opening scene. "Angrezo ko lag raha hai ki unhone Quit India ka sar kuchal diya hai, lekin azad awazen kaid nahi hoti, ye hai Hindustan ki awaz, Hindustan me kahin se, kahin pe hindustan me," she can be heard saying after she gets on air. After she finishes speaking, there is a loud bang on the door, and she is startled to hear it.
As the teaser comes to an end, viewers are left wondering what else will be featured in the film. The video clip gives a brief overview of Usha Mehta's journey following the Quit India Movement.
Audience reaction to Ae Watan Mere Watan:
After watching the teaser, some viewers were rendered speechless and commented on how well they could envision Sara performing the role.
They noted that she had excellent diction as well. However, several viewers made the comparison to Alia Bhatt and claimed that she wouldn't be able to handle such a challenging role.
