Is love truly blind? While Netflix made four attempts, to tell the truth about modern-world dating, it did leave contestants with a poor aftertaste of horrible working conditions. Former contestants from Love Is Blind have recently spoken out about their traumatic experiences while filming the show in a report by Insider.
The report details the emotional toll of the pods and the show's aftermath on them, revealing a darker side to the reality series than the public knows.
According to a recent report from Business Insider, several former contestants of the Netflix reality show "Love Is Blind" have revealed their harrowing experiences on the show.
The report suggests that contestants were subjected to a lack of food, water, and sleep, as well as excessive alcohol consumption and emotional manipulation from the show's producers.
Despite the show's titular question of whether love is blind, the report reveals that many contestants regretted signing up for the series due to the conditions they were subjected to during filming.
Love Is Blind is a reality dating show where singles get engaged without seeing each other, relying on the emotional connection built while communicating via "pods."
As per the report, the show's production company, Kinetic Content, ignored complaints from cast members regarding their living conditions during the 10-day filming schedule.
Former cast members of Netflix's dating show "Love Is Blind" have come forward with allegations of poor working conditions and emotional distress during filming.
Contestants had reported sleep deprivation and food scarcity, with some saying that producers pushed them to stay on the show even when they experienced panic attacks and poor mental health.
Cast members were allegedly deprived of sunlight, water, and food and required to film up to 20 hours daily, leaving them exhausted and in desperate need of sleep. The show's producers also allegedly provided alcohol, worsening their condition.
Danielle Drouin, a participant in 'Love Is Blind', claimed that sleep deprivation was a deliberate tactic by the producers to break the contestants. During season one, female cast members shared a single-room trailer filled with bunk beds and cockroaches.
After complaints, they were moved to hotel rooms but with strict monitoring.
Ruhl, a former cast member of Love Is Blind, said she had a panic attack while filming and tried to leave, citing her past suicide attempt and current suicidal thoughts to producers.
She stated, ¡°I kept telling them, ¡®I don¡¯t trust myself. I¡¯ve tried committing suicide before. I¡¯m having suicidal thoughts. I don¡¯t think I can continue in this.'¡±
According to the report, Love Is Blind participants reportedly had limited access to food and water.
Danielle Drouin, a contestant from season 1, claimed that sleep deprivation was real and producers intentionally kept them on edge.
The program has previously received criticism, and former cast member Jeremy Hartwell even filed a lawsuit in June 2022.
The lawsuit alleged that the production company and streaming service exposed cast members to harsh working conditions and low pay for a strenuous shooting schedule.
Former Love Is Blind contestant Kelly recently shared on Instagram that she had a bad gut feeling before her wedding day with Kenny, despite producers telling her "things could change."
In a surprising turn of events, Kelly revealed in a subsequent Instagram video that she had discussed her anxieties with Kenny just two days before the wedding. He told her not to worry because they wouldn't be getting married.
Despite their agreement not to get married and instead continue dating, Kenny appeared shocked and hurt at the altar in November 2018, leading fans to question whether his reaction was genuine or not.
The couple did not continue dating after the show, and this new information sheds light on their relationship and raises further questions.
Kinetic Content responded to the viral report. Talking to Variety, their statement read:
¡°The well-being of our participants is of paramount importance to Kinetic. We have rigorous protocols in place to care for each person before, during, and after filming.¡±
Despite Kinetic Content's claims of prioritizing the well-being of its participants, contestants have reported feeling discouraged from leaving the show, with the threat of a $50,000 fine for leaving without producer approval adding to their distress.
Show's recent attempt at a live reunion for Season 4 also faced technical difficulties, leading to frustration from viewers.
