The Diamond Heist OTT Release Date: Some stories are so audacious they seem straight out of a Hollywood script. This upcoming three-part documentary series, executive produced by Guy Ritchie, brings to life one such tale. Set to premiere on Netflix on April 16, 2025, this show relives the infamous 2000 Millennium Dome diamond robbery attempt, a heist that could have been the most daring in British history.
This one’s a heist like no other
In the summer of 2000, a group of South-East London criminals orchestrated a bold plan: to use a bulldozer to crash into the newly opened Millennium Dome, steal the priceless Millennium Star Diamond, and escape via speedboat down the Thames. Their target was a collection worth ?350 million.
However, unknown to them, the police were one step ahead. An extensive undercover operation, involving over 200 officers, was in place to crack down on the robbery. As the gang attempted to execute their plan, armed police intervened, leading to their arrest and subsequent convictions.
Guy Ritchie's foray into true crime
Known for his distinctive storytelling in films like Snatch and The Gentlemen, Guy Ritchie ventures into the world of true crime documentaries with The Diamond Heist. Directed by Jesse Vile, this series provides a unique perspective by including interviews with key figures such as Lee Wenham, one of the convicted robbers. These firsthand accounts explore the meticulous planning and the high stakes involved in the heist.
Complementing these narratives are insights from members of the Flying Squad, the elite police unit that played a key role in preventing the robbery. Prepare to be captivated by a story so incredible, it had to be true, only on Netflix!
