11 Bollywood Lead Characters That Were So Morally Wrong That They Make Us Cringe In Hindsight

Movies often leave an impressionable mark on most of us. Many of them stay in our minds for days and weeks, at end. However, there are some movies that turn out to be problematic down the line. Before you jump the gun, we aren¡¯t talking about Bhai films or pseudo agenda pleasing ones, these are your random Bollywood films that are harmless on the surface but deeply flawed if you look at it profoundly. More than the movies, it¡¯s the male leads that cause nausea, despair and rage in many of us.

1. Ayushmann Khurrana aka Chirag in Bareilly Ki Barfi

A sweet rom-com that had amazing songs and a beautiful lead pair. Ayushmann was at his charming best until he took the route of betrayer and hired Rajkummar Rao for his wrong deeds and went apeshit crazy. If the idea of the maker was to make us all laugh, let¡¯s say it failed big time. Chirag was unreasonable, a bully and nothing short of a douchebag to have put both his friend and the girl he loved through all the deceit and games.

2. R Madhavan aka Maddy in RHTDM

We still cannot help but croon Sach Ke Raha Hai Deewana Dil. Most of us are even hoping for a sequel just to watch Dia Mirza and Madhavan rekindle their fabulous chemistry but the foundation of the film in itself is highly flawed and so is our hero. Would you have easily forgiven a guy who stole someone¡¯s identity to impress you? No, right! It is a definitive indication of a crazy psychopath.

3. Dhanush aka Kundan in Raanjhanaa

I¡¯d like to believe that this movie unintentionally sold the concept of stalking as an acceptable tool in finding love. Not only is Kundan a stalker but he is also a violator for physically abusing his friend Bindiya in the name of friendship. Romanticising horrible behaviour is not acceptable at all even in movies. Period.

4. Shahid Kapoor aka Kabir in Kabir Singh

A lot has already been spoken about this film in particular. Let¡¯s just say that violence, regardless of the gender who initiates it, is unacceptable. The film normalised predatory behaviour and also showed a woman who couldn¡¯t stand up against misogyny. The worst part was that when confronted, the maker stood his ground and gave the most absurd justification - if a guy and a girl who are madly in love can¡¯t hit each other then the love isn¡¯t true.

5. Aamir Khan aka Rancho in 3 Idiots

Yes, he was a genius but he was also a shoddy friend. He slyly promoted that one shouldn¡¯t mug up for examinations but did it himself and topped every year. What¡¯s more, he pulled the worst practical jokes on people to prove his point. The speech that he wrote for Chatur wasn¡¯t funny but highly insensitive.

6. Aamir Khan aka Akash in Dil Chahta Hai

When we saw this movie as a youngster, most of us found Akash to be a cool dude. As an adult, it was Sid who was the most reasonable and sensitive character of all. Akash was a slimy jerk who was a bully and insensitive towards the feelings of other people. The way he treated the girl who crushed on her and how he made fun of his friend¡¯s unconventional relationship was uncalled for.

7. Saif Ali Khan aka Gautam in Cocktail

He created a rift between two best friends and was a living example of our stereotypical society. He partied and had a casual affair with an outgoing girl and then fell for the girl-next-door and decided to give up his ways and settle down. The clich¨¦s are barf-inducing to say the least.

8. Kartik Aaryan aka Sonu in Soni Ke Titu Ki Sweety

Most of Aaryan¡¯s initial roles are problematic. As if the Pyaar Ka Punchnama series wasn¡¯t enough, this movie raised the bar of problematic characters. He played dirty with the girl and arm-twisted his friend into doing what he wanted. There was objectification of women where he suggested his friend to have flings instead of marrying someone and then he made another girl play his dirty tricks to win.

9. Varun Dhawan aka Badri in Badrinath Ki Dulhania

Both the Dulhania movies were problematic. This one in particular showed the male lead stalking the heroine all the way to Singapore and making her life miserable in a new country and putting her in the worst of situations.

10. Sunny Kaushal aka Jaggi in Shiddat

The hero¡¯s manic obsession to win the heroine's heart is bizarre. What started off as a breezy campus love story becomes a nonsensical zidd, where he even tries to swim across the English Channel while being on the verge of getting deported. It also wrongly promoted the fact that it¡¯s okay to be unreasonable in love as long as your love is true. Pfbt!

11. Ranbir Kapoor aka Ayaan in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

When will boys understand that No indeed means No?! In this KJo saga, until the end our hero tries to make the lady fall in love with him even when she insists that she only sees a friend in him. I mean come on, it¡¯s the 21st century for crying out loud!
