Akshay Kumar's OMG 2 Reportedly Put On Hold By Censor Board To Avoid Adipurush-Like Controversy
After the miserable plight of Adipurush, the censor board has sent Akshay Kumar's OMG 2 to a revision committee to avoid controversy.
Om Raut¡¯s recently released mythological drama based on Hindu epic Ramayana left the audiences fuming with anger. Starring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon as Raghava (Lord Rama) and Janaki (Lord Sita), the film was one of the highest-budgeted films ever made in Indian cinema but fell flat on the face.
As another film based on a religious subject is all set to arrive, the censor board has turned a little conscious.
Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar is coming with the second part of his 2012 blockbuster Oh My God. Directed by Umesh Shukla, OMG 2 also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Yami Gautam and Arun Govil in pivotal roles. The film features Akshay as Lord Shiva who comes to rescue his devotee played by Pankaj.
Last time when the Central Board of Film Certification was highly criticised for giving a green flag to Adipurush, the board members are now careful.
Reports circulating online suggest that the film has been sent to a revision committee to make sure that there¡¯s nothing which could create a furore. However, a source close to the production revealed to ETimes, ¡°There is no issue yet. The censor board process is on."
As the buzz keeps increasing around OMG 2, the internet has started digging into old interviews to weave controversies like always.
An old interview of Akshay has resurfaced where he is talking about how one shouldn¡¯t waste oil and milk on gods. He once told ABP Manjha, ¡°Why are you wasting so much oil and milk on God? Where is it written that God says, Mujhe doodh dena and Hanuman saying mere ko tel daal. I don't understand why people are wasting so much.¡±
¡°At the same time we say that farmers are dying due to less food and money, so give it to them instead. I go to temples and there's so much waste.¡±
In another such interview, Akshay said that ¡®he doesn¡¯t believe in religion¡¯.
In 2020, during the promotion of Sooryavanshi, Akshay told PTI, ¡°I don¡¯t believe in any religion. I only believe in being Indian and that is what the film also shows. The idea of being an Indian and not about being a Parsi or a Hindu or a Muslim, we haven¡¯t looked at it on the basis of the religion.¡±
Well, it would be interesting to know what certificate does OMG 2 receives from the censor board and if the audience will give the film a thumbs up. Let us know below if you are going to watch the film in theatres on the 11th of August.
