Based On Exodus Of Kashmiri Pandits, Second Trailer Of Vidhu Vinod Chopra's 'Shikara' Is Out!
Shikara chronicles the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from Kashmir on the night of Jan 19 1990 through the story of Shiv Kumar Dhar played by Aadil Khan and Shanti Dhar essayed by Sadia. The movie is also facing backlash after Vidhu Vinod Chopra gave an honest statement about how the film in a way tells people that they need to move on.
It was in 1990 that Kashmiri Pandits, a community of proud people witnessed a horrific genocide that led to their exodus from the valley of Kashmir.
It's been thirty years since Kashmir witnessed this tragedy. Can there be anything worse than losing your homeland? "What is it to know the agony of being a refugee in your own country?," the makers had written as they revealed the trailer of the movie.
"The year 1990 saw the biggest forced migration in independent India whereby more than 4,00,000 Kashmiri Pandits had to flee from the Kashmir Valley," they wrote.
Bringing their story to the big screen, Vidhu Vinod Chopra has directed, edited and produced the movie. Set to release on Feb 7, the makers of the movie released the second trailer of Shikara today, and it's as gripping as the previous one.
For the unversed, Vidhu Vinod Chopra has donned director's hat after 13 years for this movie, which he says is close to his heart. The filmmaker had dedicated the movie to his mother who couldn't return to her home in Kashmir.
The movie is also facing backlash after Vidhu Vinod Chopra gave an honest statement about how the film in a way, tells people that they need to move on 30 years after the exodus of Kashmiri pandits.
The interesting fact about the movie is that 4000 Kashmiri Hindu Pandits from Jagti refugee camp have acted in the movie. They recreated real scenes of the exodus as it happened in 1990.
