If you are someone who follows Bollywood, you would know the kind of struggles celebrities go through. The recent death of Sushant Sing Rajput opened a can of worms about the industry.
Whether it's the involvement of drugs or theories about SSR dealing with depression, the last 3 months have revolved around the dark side of showbiz. Those who know Bollywood as glamourous also know the downside of it.
Many in the past have spoken about their mental health struggles. So here are 11 people who decided to end the stigma despite being celebrities and proved that money and fame have nothing to do with it.

1. Ira Khan
Aamir Khan's daughter spoke about her brave struggle with mental health recently. ¡°I have been depressed for more than four years now. I have been to a doctor¡ But I am doing much better now. For over a year, I have wanted to do something for mental health, but I wasn¡¯t sure what to do,¡± she used the opportunity on World Mental Health Day and posted a video on Instagram.
Ira Khan concluded the video with, ¡°What have I got to be depressed about?¡± precisely mentioning that fame or money has nothing to do with depression.
2. Rashami Desai
Rashami was last seen in Naagin and Bigg Boss and it was truly a fiery performance. One would have never thought she was goin through her set of struggles too.
In a candid and exclusive chat with Pinkvilla, Rashami said, ¡°I was into deep depression almost for four years and I really wanted to leave the life. I did not want to see anybody¡¯s face. You know when you expect something and get something else and the life will give you surprises in many way and when you are not ready to lead the reality, you somehow find it difficult. Professionally I was doing good because I was always loyal to my work and I used to feel happy while working. In fact, work is the only thing which helped me come out of depression. It gave me more power and more life. Personally whatever I was going through I never let that affect my work. But my life has been a open book.¡±
3. Lauren Gottleib
ABCD actress Lauren revealed details about her depression. She even spoke about her addiction with drugs and alcohol. She revealed that she went to the United States where her friend took her to a seminar.
Lauren had to speak to 500 people while having her mask on. All of a sudden, she broke into tears and at the same time mask came out. The actor felt more like herself in front of strangers. Recalling that, Lauren felt ¡®ugly¡¯ and ¡®vulnerable¡¯. She now feels comfortable talking about her anxiety and depression because Lauren has learnt to let go.
4. Rhea Chakraborty
After Sushant Singh Rajput's demise, an entire witch hunt began where Rhea was called out a gold digger and also the reason why Sushant committed suicide. However, in an interview with India Today recently, Rhea revealed how she was taking therapy for her anxiety.
Infact on 8th June 2020, she had called the therapist to Sushant's house for her session, however, he told her to go home as his sister was coming over. Recalling the same, Rhea said, she was hurt as she thought Sushant, who has dealt with the same would understand her position since her parents didn't know about her depression.
5. Deepika Padukone
She was diagnosed with depression in 2014, however she spoke about it much later. Deepika recalled how she couldn't tell if it was mental illness. Her mother realised she needed medical help. She said there was no particular way of why she felt a certain way and there were days she would just break down or sleep for hours.
Despite a professional high, Deepika dealt with major anxiety.
This was one of the reasons she set up the Live, Love, Laugh foundation to raise awareness around mental illness.
6. Shaheen Bhatt
In her book, she ment ions, she has been feelig anxiety for as long as she can remember. Shaheen was diagnosed with depression at 18, however she has been feeling the same way since 13. She openly talks about living with and surviving depression. In her Book, I have never been Unhappier, Shaheen writes how she enjoyed being the centre of attention until Alia came by.
7. Sunaina Roshan
Hrithik Roshan's sister Sunaina may not be in limelight but there have always been concerns over her health. Sunaina has gone through a broken marriage, dealt with diabetes and hypertension and even battled with depression.
In her journal two years ago, Sunaina had written about her anxiety. "I still see a counsellor, because you have to talk to an unbiased person who can guide you. I want to reach out to people who suffer from this mental ailment, which needs to be treated like any other physical ailment," Sunaina had earlier told mid-day.
8. Zaira Wasim
'You're too young to be depressed' or 'this is just a phase', something Zaira has battled with more than her mental illness. In 2018, she took to Instagram to talk about her condition. Zaira spills how she was too embarrassed to talk about it purely because of the stigma attached towards the problem.
9. Ileana D'cruz
Even the most successful stars have had to battle their worst fears. Ileana was suffering from depression and body dysmorphic disorder. ¡°It is a chemical imbalance in your brain, and needs to be treated. Don¡¯t sit back and think it will get okay but go get help. Like you have a sprain and go get yourself checked, if you have depression, seek help,¡± she said, urging people to be like Winnie the pooh. ¡°He wore a crop top, ate his favourite food all day and loved himself, you can too,¡± she said in a Mental Health awareness forum.
10. Honey Singh
He was at the highest point where he saw the darkest time of his life. Honey Singh had everything going for him, the biggest labels were producing his music videos, the biggest stars were rapping to his songs, he was churning out great music every week and judging India's Raw Star and then suddenly he disappeared.
People asked me where I had disappeared for two and a half years. So then I felt it's important to speak up. I was unwell and I got well. I remember making Dheere Dheere for Hrithik Roshan during that phase and it turned out to be the biggest hit at that time." The family was a constant support to him, he asserts. "The entire family and friends took care of me. In fact, there are many people from the industry who supported me. Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone helped me and since Deepika has also been through a similar phase, so she shared a Delhi based doctor's number with my family for me. They all prayed for me to get well and main theek ho gaya."
11. Sanjay Dutt
The actor battled substance abuse in his early 20s and more. He had earlier told d Zee News: ¡°I was very close to mom, and when she died I almost went into depression. Then I got into drugs which is something I regret the most today.¡±
