Released by Coke Studio India back in July this year, the official synopsis of the song reads, ¡°Khalasi tells the tale of the limitless sailor who has set out to explore through the shores of Gujarat. The song speaks of his tenuous, adventurous voyage, his delightful experiences and the enthusiasm with which he takes on life while he is sailing away!¡±
Why is Khalasi so famous?
This quirky number has a similar trajectory to 2021¡¯s Coke Studio Pakistan number ¡®Pasoori¡¯ which went viral like wildfire. This quirky number has taken the internet by storm, especially during this Navratri as the song resonates with the mood of people. Thanks to social media creators who vigorously used this audio and made it trend like anything.
Who is Aditya Gadhvi?
A Gujarati by birth, Aditya has created some of the finest songs in his career that have a unique fanbase of its own. Gadhvi received two years of musical training from Ustad Shoukat Hussain Khan and later won ETV Gujarat¡¯s reality singing competition Lok Gayak Gujarat. Two of his songs have also won Oscars nominations in 2014.
Aditya has also been a part of AR Rahman¡¯s KM Music Conservatory (KMMC).
In an interview with Behind Woods, Aditya once reflected back on his journey and shared, ¡°I am in the Sufi Qawwali ensemble in KMMC so last year we went to Dubai for a show and Rahman sir was present so he heard my voice there and then called me to sing a few lines for Lekar Hum Deewana Dil.¡±
¡°I got a call from his studio at midnight! He wasn¡¯t even in Chennai, but he guided me over Skype from Mumbai.¡±
Khalasi has been composed by Scam 1992¡¯s Achint Thakkar who is also known for producing some chartbuster songs.
Khalasi saw a global rage after the Norwegian dance group Quick Style best known for their viral ¡®Kala Chashma¡¯ rendition danced to it. They captioned it, ¡°Dancing to Khalasi by Coke Studio Bharat No better way of announcing the start of a new journey with Coca-Cola India than with a song about a sailor¡¯s adventurous journey, which reminds us of our own.¡±
