"My Kidneys Shut Down": Fawad Khan Says He Was Hospitalized After He Tried To Bulk Up Like Aamir Khan
Fawad said the whole process affected his physical health, and being a diabetic, it took him three months to return to his healthy self.
Actors are often praised for their dedication and commitment to their craft. Actors like Aamir Khan, Christian Bale, and Randeep Hooda have surprised fans with their drastic transformations for their movies.
For the uninitiated, Aamir Khan has undergone a major physical transformation for his film Ghajini (2008). The actor gained praise for his eight-pack abs.
Aamir spent 13 months bulking his body up for the film, which eventually turned out to be a blockbuster. He achieved the same for his mega-blockbuster Dangal. For the movie, Aamir juggled between playing the role of a middle-aged father with a growing belly and that of a fit wrestler.
Even Hollywood star Christian Bale surprised fans after undergoing extreme transformations multiple times.
While these actors paint a rosy picture for fans, the reality is sometimes darker than one can ever imagine.
To play the titular role in his upcoming movie, The Legend of Maula Jatt, Fawad Khan had to bulk up and put on many kilos. He fluctuated between 73 and 75 kg and 100 kg for the role.
The actor admitted that Aamir Khan and Christian Bale inspired him to turn into a fighter, but now he regrets how he approached it as it landed him in the hospital.
Fawad revealed he had a shortage of time to prepare for the part, so he pushed his body so hard that he eventually landed in a hospital.
While promoting his upcoming movie, Fawad spoke to 'Something Haute' and exposed the dark side of drastic physical transformations. Fawad said,
"It is not the best thing I did for myself. I would never do that again. I just made some questionable choices, which negatively affected me. There is a dark underbelly to all these physical transformations, and people should know that making these decisions is taking a huge toll on their health. And it happened. Ten days into it, I was hospitalized. My kidneys shut down."
Fawad said the whole process affected his physical health, and being a diabetic, it took him three months to return to his healthy self.
"I was putting in insane hours. It's not the right way to do these things, but I had limited time. I had 1¨C1.5 months. Due to whatever circumstances, it happened the way it happened. I am a bit insane in that way. I am not Christian Bale, but I tried to do what he does, even with Aamir Khan. Maybe Maula Jatt's would have looked very different if I had six months. It is not a transformation that I would encourage for anyone. Never. "
The Punjabi-language remake of Yunus Malik's 1979 cult classic "Maula Jatt" stars Mahira Khan ("Raees") and Fawad Khan ("M.s Marvel") as Maula Jatt and Mukkho, respectively.
"The Legend of Maula Jatt" is one of the highest-budget movies in Pakistani film history. Humaima Malik plays Daro, Faris Shafi plays the role of Mood and Gohar Rasheed as Makha.
The movie's primary focus is the legendary rivalry between Noori Natt, played by Hamza Ali Abbasi, the brutal gang leader, and local hero Maula Jatt. The story has been reimagined for a global audience by Lashari, whose debut film "Waar" (2013) broke box office records in Pakistan.
