Meet IAS Govind Jaiswal, Whose Struggle Story Has Inspired The Upcoming Film Ab Dilli Dur Nahin

The much-awaited trailer of Kamal Chandra¡¯s directorial Ab Dilli Dur Nahin is out now. The film is all set to hit theatres on 12th May this year and is inspired by the Life of IAS Officer Govind Jaiswal. Starring Imran Zahid in the lead role, this Dinesh Gautam¡¯s story explores the theme of success and failure through the protagonist¡¯s life.

Produced by Vinay Bhardwaj and Sanjay Mawar under the banner of Shining Sun Studios, Ab Dilli Dur Nahin takes inspiration from IAS Govind Jaiswal¡¯s story. Govind was just 22 when he cleared the UPSC examination in 2006 and secured All India Rank 48. The film although is not his biopic but is drawn around his life story.

Govind Jaiswal cleared the UPSC Exam in 2006, securing an impressive all-India rank of 48. The son of a rickshaw puller from Bihar, Jaiswal came from a very humble background. His ascension to an IAS officer at the age of 22 became national news at the time. While the film is not his biopic, it takes inspiration from his life.

Hailing from Varanasi, Govind¡¯s father Narayan struggled hard to fulfil his son¡¯s dream. In 1995, Narayan had 35 rickshaws but his wife's illness made him sell 20 of his rickshaws. However, she couldn¡¯t be saved and passed away in 1995. Later when Govind decided to go to Delhi for UPSC preparations in 2004-2005, the family suffered a shortage of money.

Narayan then decided to sell his 14 rickshaws to fulfil Govind¡¯s dream and was left with just one rickshaw left that he drove himself to make ends meet.

To make Govind reach where he is, his father turned a rickshaw puller from a rickshaw owner despite a major leg ailment. The film¡¯s lead Zahid, who himself hails from Bihar revealed meeting Jaiswal while preparing for the role. He shared, ¡°It was really challenging to play a real-life hero who comes from a very humble background. So as an actor, you need to understand the nuances of that character.¡±

Ab Dilli Dur Nahin was shot majorly in Delhi and interestingly, the film's costumes have been designed by inmates of Tihar Jail under the mentorship of designer Winky Singh.

Sharing his excitement about the project, producer Vinay Bhardwaj says, "Ab Dilli Dur Nahin is a story that has its connection deeply rooted with the masses. The struggles and perseverance of people from small towns when they arrive in bustling metros like Delhi are relatable to a wide audience and I'm sure this film will have something for everyone to connect with."
