Rajasthan Minister Backs Demands Of 'Sanatan Censor Board' Amid Adipurush Controversy
Amidst immense controversy around Adipurush, Rajasthan minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas has now extended his support for a 'Sanatan Censor Board'.
The controversy surrounding Om Raut¡¯s recent directorial Adipurush is not settling down anytime soon. Ever since the teaser of this film was released, the project is being highly criticised for its alleged misleading depiction of deities. From celebrities to politicians, most of the known faces have called out the film publicly. Parallelly, netizens are adding spices to the ongoing controversy.
What are the points of criticism people have raised?
Netizens have called out the poor VFX of the film alongside the alleged no-resemblance with the existing versions of epic Ramayana. The backlash that followed was the look of Saif's fierce Ravana who is shown sporting a beard and a buzz cut. Some people also couldn¡¯t associate with deities wearing leather outfits which are not close to their earlier visible versions and are called demeaning by many.
Recently, a Hindu seers body, Akhil Bharatiya Sant Samiti, has also sought the formation of a Sanatan Censor Board alleging improper depiction of Hindu Gods and Goddesses in Bollywood projects.
Rajasthan Minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas has now come out in support of the Hindu saints over their demand for the formation of the Sanatan Censor Board. ¡°I am with the saints. I request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to look at the demands of saints and give permission to formulate the Sanatan Censor Board," Pratap said.
It was also reported recently that a plea seeking a stay order on the film release has been moved.
The plea alleged that Adipurush portrayed Lord Rama and Hanuman in an unwarranted and inaccurate way as they wear leather straps. In a Delhi court, the plea was moved by advocate Raj Gaurav against producer Bhushan Kumar and director Om Raut. Mukesh Khanna also called out the film saying, ¡°Not everyone may agree with me, but Hindu Gods are not handsome. They are beautiful. They are not handsome like (Arnold) Schwarzenegger¡±.
What is Adipurush all about?
Adipurush is scheduled to hit the theatres on January 12, 2023, in IMAX and 3D. The film¡¯s story is inspired by the epic Ramayana and stars Prabhas as Raghava, Kriti Sanon as Janaki, and Saif as Lankesh, based on Lord Rama, Goddess Sita, and Ravana respectively. It will be released in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada languages. Produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar of T-series, Raut, Prasad Sutar, and Rajesh Nair of Retrophiles, the film is said to be one of the most expensive Indian films ever made.
