Salman Indulged In Real Action While Shooting For 'Sultan', Got Kicked And Pushed Around

If you thought life was easy for Salman Khan, it's not really. The actor might be the highest profit making machine in Bollywood right now, but he pays a price for it. And for a film like Sultan, which requires his character to be as real as possible, he surely has a lot at stake. The film is a biopic on wrestler Sultan Ali Khan. Hence, unless you live your part, you aren't doing much justice to it.

Let's cut things short. Sultan director Ali Abbas Zafar has revealed how Salman got kicked, punched and thrown in real during the shooting of the much awaited film. In an interview with DNA, he opened up about all the preparation that went into making the film and why he is scared of people's expectations.

Salman has two very different body types in the film. Ali said the actor achieved that during the course of shooting. Salman plays a wrestler who goes on to become a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter.

"Hats off to him for the way he has transformed his body without taking a break. At 50 that is very difficult to do. We switched two body types while shooting which is phenomenal because the wrestling body is a little leaner and ripped and the bulkier body is for the MMA... He trained every day for three hours. He got thrown around, kicked and punched. But within three months he was kicking, punching and doing all those things like a pro."

Ali added that the extra physical exercise took place in the ring!

"Salman had put in so much effort that I had to be conscious that I don't strain him because his body wouldn't be able to take it. Because he had to look good on camera. Also, because extra physical exercise will happen in the ring while shooting. We shot for 40 days of action with him non-stop. When you shoot such a long duration of action your body within those 40 days changes because you are losing body salts every day. So by the time he started to the time he finished, his body has changed. Towards the end of it, he was looking like a completely ripped big guy."

Salman always wanted to do a sports film because he loves sports in every manner. While his contemporaries have delivered major sports hits like Lagaan, Chak De India! and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Salman was waiting for the right script.

"Salman wanted to do one film which was about sport and yet was about more than sport. Sultan is about fighting out and fighting within. At heart, it is a very simple story about a man and a woman and what happens in their relationship. Wrestling is just the backdrop of the film. In wrestling, every time you lose you fall in the mud, you rise. It's like life. The only thing they teach you in wrestling is: Just get up again after a fall. "Chal khada ho, chal khada ho" are the only words they use while training a wrestler. That became a kind of a germ for the story."

Salman's film is scheduled to release on the actor's favourite calendar spot - Eid. The film also stars Anushka Sharma, Randeep Hooda and Amit Sadh. Hooda, who seems to be on a roll himself with back-to-back releases (last one being Sarbjit) has already declared that Sultan is Salman's career best performance. This is his second film with Salman after Kick. Hooda said despite his part in the film being small, it is special for him.

"Though my part is a lot smaller than Kick, but I am there and we got to hang out¡­ I think it's probably one of Salman's best performance." - Randeep Hooda
