Zohra Sehgal Was The First Indian Actress Whose Film Won At The Cannes Film Festival In 1946
Our very own legendary and beloved late actress Zohra Sehgal has been honored by Google with an incredible doodle featured on the search engine's home-page for the whole country to see.
It was on this day back in 1946 when Zohra Sehgal's film Neecha Nagar was released at the Cannes Film Festival. But what many don't know is that this film went onto win the festival¡¯s highest honor, the Palme d¡¯Or prize.
Zohra Sehgal was one of the most celebrated actors in the history of Hindi cinema who spent an astounding seven decades in the industry. She was an exceptional theatre artist as well as a quintessential Bollywood dive, admired and loved by all.
Some of Zohra Sehgal's most memorable roles to date have been Cheeni Kum, Dil Se, Veer Zaara, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Bend It Like Beckham. She is hailed as the most loved grandmother of Bollywood and appeared last in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Sawariya in 2007.
Even Google has honored Zoya Sehgal by posting an incredible doodle featured on the search engine's home-page for the whole country to see. In a note written on its website, Google described Sehgal as "one of the country's first female actors to truly achieve recognition on the international stage."
