11 Insensitive Incidents That Happened Lately & Proved Our Society Is Still Unkind Towards Women
From Fatima Sana Shaikh to Mandira Bedi and Mahima Chaudhry, Bollywood's female celebrities came under the scrutiny proving that our society is still unkind towards women.
Trolls usually enjoy the chaos they cause. But because of their regressive minds, many people face harassment that leaves a scar with them for a long time. After all, it's easy to sit behind a laptop or mobile phone and post hateful and insensitive comments for people who don't even know your true identity.
Women, especially celebrities, are always under scrutiny for their choices. Online abuse has become an everyday facet of misogyny. These incidents that happened lately not only prove that our society is still unkind to women but also shows how intrusive we are in other people's life. Why were these celebrities trolled?
1. Why can't Mandira Bedi perform her husband's last rites?
A grieving woman who lost her husband was being trolled for her choice of clothes and to perform her husband's last rites. She did it all out of love and respect for the soul she lost. While she defying age-old patriarchal tradition, she was being trolled for not being an Adarsh Sanskari lady. Passing comments on her choice of clothes at a time when she was suffering a deep loss was highly insensitive.
Makes me sick that people are having a field day trolling a grieving woman for performing last rites on her husband instead of asking a stranger or her tiny kid. Or for not having the time to dress the way THEY imagine grieving women should dress. Fools!! Applaud her strength!

In another disgusting incident, actress Fatima Sana Shaikh has been getting trolled for a personal choice of divorce between Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao. As soon as the duo made the announcement to the world, a barrage of trolls began to post hateful comments making an unsubstantial claim that she had a role to play in their divorce.
3. Is it right to judge Mahima Chaudhry for not expressing grief in a certain way?
When we remember the people we have lost, we commemorate their life just as much as we grieve their death. Mahima Chaudhry is being trolled for smiling while remembering Raj Kaushal, even after she said she was devastated to hear about his untimely death. She even pulled out an unseen photo of him and told the paps that Kaushal was the first person she met when she came to Mumbai.
4. Why can't Neena Gupta wear the clothes she likes?
Neena Gupta was trolled for wearing shorts when she had gone to meet the legendary lyricist Gulzar. "Saree pehen ke jana chahiye tha," wrote a troll. So, a 62-year old woman will be taught what she should wear? Interestingly, when Sana Khan chose to wear a hijab, she was trolled and asked, "Itna padhai likhai ka kya fayda wohi toh same sabke jaisa parde ke andar rehna? (What's the point of all the education if she has to stay in a hijab?)". Aren't these double standards?
5. Can't Dia Mirza find love twice?
Dia Mirza was being trolled for her second marriage. From blaming her for divorce with her firsts husband Sahil to saying that she will be divorced again, people trolled her brutally. Not just that they even questioned the timing of her pregnancy announcement. Can women exercise their choice?
6. Trolling TV actress Shruti Das for her dusky skin colour is disgustingly racist.
TV actress Shruti Das filed a complaint with West Bengal Commission for Women for racial bullying on social media. The 23-year-old acrress seen in many Bengali TV shows lately told ETimes, "Name-calling has been a part of my life. Recently someone called me a 'black board' and asked how someone can cast me as a heroine when there are actresses like Payel De and Rooqma Ray in the show. They also accuse me of making 'compromises' to get roles. Some people think I am getting the roles because of my relationship with Swornendu. But none of them is aware that we started seeing each other after 6 months of Trinayani. In that case, how could he recommend me for the lead role."
7. It's sexist to troll Kareena Kapoor for charging Rs 12 crore for playing the role of Sita.
Criticizing a woman for her fee is a sign of ingrained sexism. Had a male actor done that, it would have been counted as his success. However, when reports of Kareena's fees made headlines, #BoycottKareenaKhan was trending on social media. Why women asking for money for the work they do is considered as "too demanding"?
8. It's unfair to troll Rhea Chakraborty for everything.
The charges against her have not been proven as of yet, but trolls have already declared her guilty. The actress took to social media to urge fans to donate funds for a child with a rare genetic disorder. She was asking for help for a one-year-old child's condition, but people were calling her selfish, fool and sympathy queen.
9. Why can't Malaika Arora exercise her choice to wear what she likes?
When Malaika Arora got her second jab of vaccination, she posted a few pictures to inspire fans to get vaccinated too, but instead, people called her out for her choice of outfit. Why was her outfit even a topic of discussion?
10. Why can't Devoleena Bhattacharjee learn and perform belly dancing, just like others?
While people applaud star kids like Shanaya for their belly dancing videos, TvV actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee was rather trolled brutally. "Gapi bahu yeh kya," wrote a troll. "Are didi nor¨¤ nahi bora lag rhi.," wrote another one. Was this even justified?
11. What will Sara have to do to not get trolled?
If she wouldn't have posted she would have got trolled like other including Karan Johar who were questioned for their silence. However, Sars posted a heartfelt note for her friend and co-star but she was called "drama queen."
Can we please leave people alone, live and let them live?
