Anurag Kashyap Claims Karan Johar Is A 'Misunderstood' Person, Says I Found Him To Be Like Me
Dobaaraa director Anurag Kashyap said he judged Karan Johar because of his privilege but he thinks KJo is a 'misunderstood' person.
Director Anurag Kashyap, whose new age thriller 'Dobaaraa' has hit theatres today, is making headlines for his bold statements. The filmmaker has been quite vocal about the ongoing boycott trend and his opinions about his industry peers lately.
Anurag Kashyap, who recently claimed that he gets along better with women than with men, has opened up about his bond with Koffee With Karan chat show host Karan Johar during an interaction in Pinkvilla's ¡®Cult Creators¡¯.
The Dobaaraa director said that Karan Johar, who has received much hatred for allegedly encouraging nepotism in the Bollywood industry, is a 'misunderstood' person and that he only discovered him much later as he comes from privilege.
¡°I¡¯ve judged him a lot. When I met him, I found him to be like me but on the other side of the coin. He also treats his filmmakers, people, and his directors and gives them as much freedom and empowerment. He is a misunderstood person," Anurag Kashyap said during the interaction.
He added, "The most amazing thing about him is he has his own critic. Today, the creative head of Dharmatics Somen Mishra was the biggest Karan Johar critic and what Karan Johar did was hire him. That is a sign of a visionary and a courageous man."
Anurag Kashyap rose to prominence with some of his most successful and critically acclaimed films such as the 2012 movie Gangs of Wasseypur. He has worked in several movies including Manmarziyaan, Dev D, Bombay Velvet, No Smoking, Gulaal, Black Friday, Mukkabaaz, Ugly, among others.
Meanwhile, for his science-fiction mystery drama 'Dobaaraa', Anurag Kashyap has reunited with actor Taapsee Pannu who had featured in Manmarziyaan. The film is currently running in theatres and it has been tagged as a "consistently entertaining and engaging" project by critics.
