'Attempt to whitewash image': Sobhita Dhulipala faces major backlash after sharing NYT article on love story with Naga Chaitanya
A recent New York Times article on Naga Chaitanya and Sobhita Dhulipala's love story has faced backlash online, with many accusing the couple's PR of attempting to "whitewash" their image and justify Chay's alleged cheating.
Even before Naga Chaitanya married Sobhita Dhulipala on December 4, their relationship had already attracted considerable criticism, with many fans rallying behind his ex-wife, actress Samantha, whom he had married in 2017. Sobhita, in particular, became the target of much online vitriol, with people either sympathising with Samantha or expressing anger towards Chay. Now, after the American daily New York Times featured Naga Chaitanya and Sobhita's story, and Sobhita shared it, the backlash intensified, giving people a new reason to direct their hate towards the couple.
Sobhita Dhulipala recently shared an article from The New York Times on her Instagram, which covered her and her husband Naga Chaitanya's love story.
The headline read, "For Two Indian Movie Stars, a Love Language Expressed in Telugu," accompanied by a photo from their wedding.
The piece highlighted how the couple bonded over their South Indian roots and shared language.
Sobhita captioned the post, "Sushi, techno, one ancient language and many thousand miles. Thank you @nytimes for covering our story so charmingly."
However, the comment section quickly turned harsh, with many clearly unhappy about the couple's happiness.
One commenter wrote, "OMG, a whole page it took to describe how he cheated?."
For those not familiar, rumours about Naga Chaitanya and Sobhita's relationship began circulating after his separation from Samantha Ruth Prabhu in 2021.
Another said, "Nice covering!! Oct 2021 was separation news, they spoke after a year in April 2022 it seems! What a joke."
Yet another user remarked, "That's because of Samantha! Your marriage is famous just because your husband is the ex-husband of Samantha!"
A Reddit post even called the article a PR attempt by Sobhita and Naga Chaitanya, claiming it was an effort to "whitewash" their image and justify Chay's alleged actions.

Sobhita Dhulipala and Naga Chaitanya tied the knot in a traditional ceremony at Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad on December 4.
The Made in Heaven actress and the Telugu actor were both dressed in traditional wedding attire. Sobhita wore a beautiful Kanjivaram silk saree with intricate gold zari, while Naga Chaitanya donned a traditional Pancha, a dhoti style from Andhra Pradesh.

However, even their wedding poses had sparked a wave of criticism from the public.
Many pointed out the striking resemblance to the poses Naga Chaitanya had in his previous wedding with ex-wife Samantha Ruth Prabhu, including similar ceremonial gestures and emotional moments shared with his father, Nagarjuna.
