And as the New year kicks in, it's time to look at the fantastic work and the year that went by. Real life was hit big time by the new variants but reel and filmy duniya ensured you were more than occupied with movies and shows.
The web series and web shows that released in 2021 made us believe that OTT is surely going to get bigger than Bollywood. Despite cinema halls opening, there wasn't much movement and people preferred good content over star power.
Infact, we have been seeing star power in OTT as well. Many joined the bandwagon and made their OTT debut realizing their true calling. The edgy action drama in Family Man 2 starring Manoj Bajpayee to TVF's Aspirants, OTT was churning out innovation, originality and good work.

On international front, people found their interest in not just English but other foreign languages as well Korean and K-pop became the hot favourite.

There were some phenomenal movies that were released last year. Hindi and regional showcased some of their finest work. Jai Bhim won the best movie 2021 starring Suriya. Based on a true incident in 1993, which involves a case fought by Justice K. Chandru

2021 saw a whole bunch of films that was lead by strong female leads. From Vidya Balan in Sherni, Kriti Sanon giving a stellar performance in Mimi to Kangana Ranaut as Jayalalitha as Thailavii, script took the lead and so did these actresses.

Not one, not two, three crime documentaries became audience's favourite. House Of Secrets, Night Stalker and Cecil Hotel were huge last year and continue to be the most watched shows. If you haven't seen it, then you are missing out on good content.

Commercial Bollywood also saw some fantastic releases. Many Hindi films released but only a handful made a mark. Leading the pack was Shershaah starring Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani. Not only the movie turned out to be a blockbuster, the music of the film made its way to the Billboard music 2021. Infact, Amazon stated that Shershaah had become the most watched Indian film on the platform in Aug 2021.

Malayalam films received appreciation and validation ever since COVID kicked in and people realised that regional cinema is at par with Hindi films, only better. Drishyam 2 is a drama thriller film and a sequel to the first one. Do not be surprised if you see the second installment made in Hindi as well.
