Case Registered Against Nawazuddin Siddiqui For 'Hurting' Bengali Community With Beverage Ad
A Calcutta High Court lawyer has filed a police complaint against Bollywood actor Nawazzuddin Siddiqui and Coca-Cola India's CEO.
Amid controversies over his relationship with his wife Aaliya Siddiqui, Nawazuddin Siddiqui has landed in a fresh controversy.
If reports are to be believed, a case has been registered against the 'Manjhi' actor for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the Bengali community.
Nawazzuddin Siddiqui Lands In More Trouble
On Wednesday, a Calcutta High Court lawyer named Dibyayan Banerji filed a police complaint against Bollywood actor Nawazzuddin Siddiqui and Coca-Cola India's CEO.
According to the complaint, they have hurt the sentiments of the Bengali community with their latest Sprite ad.
The ad triggered a social media campaign urging Bengalis to boycott all Coca-Cola products before the complaint was filed.
The new Sprite ad's Bengali version implies that people from the Bengali community would rather starve themselves than work and it has led to a massive backlash.
New Sprite Ad Stirs Controversy
Speaking of the Hindi version of the ad, the petitioner was quoted saying, ¡°The main advertisement by Coca-Cola for its product Sprite was in Hindi. And we have no problems with that. We only have a problem with Bengali dubbing of the ad which is running on various TV channels and websites.¡±
Company Pulls Down Controversial Sprite Ad
As per a Livemint report, the company removed the Bengali version of the new Sprite ad starring actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui from TV and its social media sites after receiving the complaint.
It also stated that Sprite India issued an apology note saying it "regrets the recent ad campaign for the cold drink and that the company respects Bengali language".

On the work front, Nawazuddin Siddiqui is gearing up for the release of two upcoming projects - Sudhir Mishra¡¯s Afwaah, which stars Bhumi Pednekar as the leading lady.
The film is slated to hit cinemas on May 5. Sumit Kaul, Sharib Hashmi, Sumeet Vyas, Rockey Raina and TJ Bhanu also play pivotal roles in the film.
Nawazuddin also has Kangana Ranaut's production Tiku Weds Sheru in his kitty apart from Kushan Nandy's Jogira Sa Ra Ra and Noorani Chehra alongside Kriti Sanon's sister Nupur Sanon, who will mark her debut with the film.
Court Tells Nawazudding To Settle His Dispute With Wife Amicably
On the personal front, the legal battle between Nawazuddin and his wife Aaliya has garnered significant attention. Recently, the Bombay High Court asked Nawazuddin Siddiqui and his wife Aaliya to settle their family dispute amicably.
During the hearing, the bench instructed Nawazuddin to settle his wife's pending bills without delay. However, when Aaliya submitted her laundry bills, the judges advised her against wasting their time.
