The 1986 Chernobyl disaster was one of the worst man-made disaster of all times. Many of us hadn¡¯t even heard about it until we watched the HBO show based on the incident. The show was so heart-wrenching that it overtook a number of most acclaimed shows in history to become the highest-rated TV show of all time.
Now, at the Golden Globe awards 2020, Chernobyl, the five-episode series, has won the award for Best Television Limited Series.
Jared Harris, who stars in the series, dedicated the win to the victims of tragedy. He shared the stage along with co-star Stellan Skarsg?rd and show's creator Craig Maizen as well as director Johan Renck.
Harris began the speech as he said, ¡°Thank you to the HFPA. Thank you to HBO. Craig, your script poses the question: What is the cost of lies? And that question becomes more relevant with each passing day¡¯s news cycle.¡±
¡°The people of the Ukraine and Belarus bore the brunt of this catastrophe and they shielded millions of people from its worst effects at the cost of their own lives," he added.
¡°Chernobyl is dedicated to their courage and sacrifice,¡± he added.

Just days after it's release, Chernobyl became the top rated show on IMDb. The show is based on real-life Chernobyl nuclear reactor disaster in the Ukrainian town in 1986, which occurred during system testing. It went so wrong that it ended up killing 4,000 to 9,000 victims with some areas of Eastern Europe still being affected because of radiation.
Apart from Chernobyl, Fleabag, which dominated Emmy Awards as well, was bestowed with Best Comedy Series trophy, and its star-creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge was honoured with the Best Actress award. Succession, which is about a media empire beset by family infighting, won the best drama series award.
