In another horrifying incident, an elephant has died after villagers threw a burning tyre at it to shoo it away. The tyre apparently got stuck in his ear as he tried to run away. The incident took place in Masinagudi in the Nilgiri district of Tamil Nadu.
Case of animal cruelty comes to light in Masinagudi, Nilgiris. People in a private resort apparently threw a lit, burnt cloth on a 40-year-old elephant following which the animal died.

Kamal Haasan took to Twitter to write, "We killed forests and made nations. We forgot the story of the wildlife. How did the custom of burning alive come about? Isn't it barbaric to burn an elephant that is retreating?"

As per a senior forest official, the elephant was attacked on Jan 8 after it had damaged a luxury car parked at Mavanahalla near Masinagudi. "They threw a tyre filled with kerosene at the elephant, which was already being treated by the forest department for a deep back injury," he said as quoted by Indian Express.
¡°The two persons detained were arrested today and will be sent for remand,¡± he added. Reymond Mallan Malcolm (28) and Prasath Sugumaran (36) have been arrested.
"After they threw the flaming object, it had damaged the ear lobe leading to severe bleeding. There were efforts to save the animal but it died on January 19. Similar incidents are increasing in Mudumalai region," Vijay Krishnaraj of the Nilgiris-based United Conservation Movement (UCM) said.
