Fashion designer Rohit Bal is currently hospitalized in Medanta Hospital located in Delhi, NCR (Gurugram), battling for his life. According to HT City sources, the designer is in the ICU and is on a ventilator due to a pre-existing heart condition.
"Bal was rushed to the hospital by model Suraj Dhalia three days ago. His heart was sinking, and he was unconscious. His pacemaker gave him seven shocks. He was initially taken to Moolchand, and when his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to Medanta," a close friend told HT City.
In 2010, the designer successfully recovered from a severe heart attack. Additionally, he has been dealing with pancreatitis, and the condition has worsened over time.
In recent months, the 62-year-old has faced severe various health complications, leading to multiple hospitalizations.
"Gudda is a fighter, but his illness has taken a serious toll on him. He has become extremely weak over the last few months. We are praying for him," says another close friend while talking to HT City.
Rohit Bal, 62, has reportedly been in and out of rehab and hospitals for alcohol abuse and consequent health problems.
According to reports, Arjun Rampal visited Bal while in critical condition at Medanta Hospital in November last year.
"Gudda is in very bad shape. He was almost dead in November. The doctors had to flush out alcohol and sleeping pills from his system when his friends took him to the hospital."
Around 6-7 months ago, in an interview with HT City, a close friend of Rohit Bal shared insights into his relationship with Lalit Tehlan.
In February 2010, Rohit Bal underwent an emergency angioplasty after suffering a heart attack. With almost three decades of ruling the fashion world, Bal has earned several awards.
He was honored as the 'Designer of the Year' at the International Fashion Awards in 2001 and 2004 and the Indian Fashion Awards in 2006.
In February 2012, he was named the grand finale designer at Lakme Fashion Week. Time Magazine recognized him as India's master of fabric and fantasy.
In an interview, the designer described himself as a 'traditionalist' and emphasized that he doesn't create clothes based on trends.
Rohit Bal showcased his fashion collections in major global cities, including London, Paris, New York, Singapore, and Moscow. Beyond fashion, he ventured into the culinary business and opened his first restaurant, ¡®Veda,¡¯ in 2005.
Born on May 8, 1961, in Srinagar, Rohit Bal initiated his career in 1986 by founding Orchid Oversea Pvt. Ltd. with his brother and later introduced his independent collection in 1990. An alumnus of St. Stephens College, he pursued fashion studies at the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Delhi.
