'Someone who is trying to destroy...': Why Aamir Khan became an alcoholic and fell into depression

Aamir Khan recently disclosed that he had depression and turned to alcohol to get through one of the most difficult times in his life. In a recent interview, Aamir revealed that he began drinking excessively after going through his first divorce from his former wife, Reena Dutta. He claimed that during those 1.5 years, he was unable to concentrate on his profession and drank every night since he was lost and didn't know what to do.

Why Aamir Khan became an alcoholic and fell into depression

Aamir Khan disclosed during the talk with Instant Bollywood that he experienced a period of deep sadness that lasted for over two to three years following his split with Reena. He spent the majority of his days by himself at home during this time, neither working nor listening to scripts. He revealed that although he had previously been a teetotaler, he had started drinking extensively for roughly a year and a half. He turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism for his turbulent feelings and restless nights, eventually downing a full bottle every day. Aamir acknowledged that he was going through a self-destructive phase and struggling with severe despair, likening himself to the figure of Devdas.

He added, ¡°You and accept how important it was for you. Accept that what was once yours is not there now. Also accept how good it was for you when it was there, and how much you will miss it when it isn¡¯t there anymore.¡±

Aamir Khan¡¯s relationships

In 1986, Aamir and Reena Dutta tied the knot. Ira Khan and Junaid Khan are their two kids. In 2002, Aamir and Reena got divorced. He later wed Kiran Rao in 2005, however the two divorced in 2021. The two are parents to their son Azad.
