Bowled Over By 'RRR', Hollywood Director Requests SS Rajamouli To Make A Film On 'Mahabharata'

Everyone is in awe of SS Rajamouli's RRR. From Hollywood rooting for the film to bag an Oscar nomination to the film become third highest grossing Indian movie in Japan, the Jr. NTR and Ram Charan starrer movie continues to make waves across the globe.

Not just the fans, but even Hollywood directors are bowled over. The recent one to praise the ace filmmaker is Canadian filmmaker Mary Harron who is known for her works in American Psycho, and The Notorious Bettie Page. Praising SS Rajamouli, she also requested him to make a movie on Mahabharata.

This happened during the film's screening in New York.

Mary Harron told Rajamouli, "I¡¯ve seen the Mahabharata on stage a couple of times in plays and it¡¯s beautiful, but it was a little boring. But then I saw your film and it wasn¡¯t the Mahabharata but it was, and I thought to myself ¡®oh this is what it should be, and how it should be made with the spirit of it should be as exciting as that."

Responding to her, the filmmaker said, "What I have done here is I would say is minuscule, any-size of what Mahabharata can be." He added that he would love to make a film on Mahabharata but that would take a lot of time. Watch their conversation below.

For the unversed, in an earlier conversation with Mint, SS Rajamouli had opened up on his plans to make a movie on Mahabharta.

He said, "I want to make them bigger, bigger and better. And of course, I want to tell Indian stories to the rest of the world. The Mahabharata (the epic Hindu poem) has been my long, long, long dream project, but it will take a long time for me to step into that ocean. Before I step into Mahabharata I want to make maybe three or four films."

Since Rajamouli spends about three years on most of his films, we might have to wait for another 10-12 years before we see this magnum opus.
