Honey Singh Breaks Silence On Mafia Mundeer: All About Fallout With Badshah, Raftaar & Others

Mafia Mundeer at one point in time was one of the most popular bands in India. They delivered many hits like Khol Botal, Begani Naar Buri and Delhi ke Deewane among others. However, the group fell apart after 2012. What exactly happened?

He clarified Mafia Mundeer wasn't a band, it was a platform. He also talked about the ideology behind the group's name. He said Mundeer means a bunch of boys in Punjabi and Mafia is an ideology that he believes in for so many years. "It is a disciplined organisation. I don't believe in gangs. Gangsters kill on the streets; they fight on the streets. Mafia sits on tables in suits and they control the gangsters on the streets. They are organised criminals. I am not influenced by crime but by their ideology."

He added, "Mafia Mundeer's principle was 'respect your hierarchy'. Jo ladke ye bolte hain ki hum Mafia Mundeer mein the, aur mujhe honey bolte hain. Vo Mafia Mundeer mein kabhi the hi nahi. Agar vo mujhe Honey Paaji nahi bol sakte... mai ye nahi keh raha meri izzat karo. Agar tum keh rahe ho ki tum Mafia Mundeer the, toh tum hierarchy ke protocol ko toh follow karo."

How was Mafia Mundeer formed?

Badshah's song Soda Whiskey was gaining popularity. It was quite a hit at that time. This is when Honey Singh approached him to work together. Honey Singh also approached Raftaar - who brought along Lil Golu and Ikka. The three were popular on Orkut for their music. Honey liked their music too, and thus the group was formed. Later, Alfaaz, Money Aulja, Ninja and J-star and many other artists also joined the group.

How did Mafia Mundeer fall apart?

Ikka was the first one to quit the group. He said in an interview, he quit the group because of politics. Someone told him, he has been ousted. At the same time, Honey was told Ikka has quit.

Ikka, even today, credits his success to Singh and says he polished his rapping and singing ability and even helped him discover his own style.

This happened after Dope Shope was released. The viral song was quite expensive. After the song was released, Raftaar claimed that he wrote the song and also shot for it. However, he was removed from the song and wasn't even given the credit. He quit the group because of this.

Badshah, in 2011, left the group with similar claims. He said that he didn't get due credit for Get Up Jawani, the song on which he spent 5-6 lakhs. In an interview, Badshah said, "I think Honey Paaji decided to go solo. Then everyone thought, 'humara toh kuch hone nahi wala', so everyone left the group."

It's said that Honey Singh and Badshah were very close friends at one point in time. The friendship took an ugly turn when Singh compared the latter with a Nano car in a press conference of his film Zorawar.

Badshah in an interview said that his father cried because of Honey Singh.

Not just Dope Shope, Raftaar claimed that he didn't get credit for songs in Fugly. He (Yo Yo) and I wrote and composed these two songs. I have no idea why I am not being credited for them. I wrote Dhup Chik about three years ago. If I tell you that one of his most famous songs, Dope Shope, was also written by me, how would he react?" Raftaar said.

On the other hand, Honey Singh claimed that he met Raftaar only once. "Sirji, aaj ki problem hai, ek baar jo mujhse mil le, ussey lagta hai main usko jaanta hoon. I think I have met Raftaar only once. I have only two songs in the film ¡ª Fugly and Banjarey ¡ª and there is no other song of mine in it, nor am I claiming it," said Honey Singh.

To this, Raftaar said, "If he says he doesn¡¯t know me, why am I in videos with him in his old songs?"
