Johnny Depp's lawyer Ben Chew has revealed that the actor is happy with his "total win" in the defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard. When asked about Heard's fear of being left impoverished, he said that it was never about money. Depp only wanted his reputation back.
Johnny Depp wasn't fighting for money
"We obviously can't disclose attorney-client communications, but as Mr Depp testified ... this was never about money for Mr Depp," Chew told Good Morning America. "This was about restoring his reputation - and he's done that. It was a total win for Johnny", he said.
He also revealed how happy Johnny Depp was after he won the case.
After the verdict was announced, Depp was over the moon. "Like the weight of the world had been taken off his shoulders," he said and added, "And I feel that finally, after six years, he's gotten his life back."
Depp's lawyer Camille Vasquez said that it was "disappointing" that Ms Heard's team called the victory a blow to the #MeToo. "We encourage any victims to come forward. Domestic violence doesn't have a gender."
While talking to TODAY, Camille revealed Johnny hadn't smiled like that in six years.
"An overwhelming sense of relief. I was speaking with a mutual friend of Johnny and ours and he said, 'I haven¡¯t seen Johnny smile like that in six years¡¯. The verdict is overwhelmingly positive for Johnny."
Benjamin Chew also shared why he thought the jury believed Johnny Depp and not Amber Heard.
"Johnny owned his issues, he was very candid about his alcohol and drug issues, and he was candid about some unfortunate texts that he wrote. I think it was in sharp contrast to Miss Heard who didn¡¯t seem or at least the jury may have perceived that she didn¡¯t take accountability for anything. We feel very confident that there are no errors that would justify any kind of successful appeal," he said talking about if Heard will be able to overturn the decision.
