Do You Know KJo's Rocky Aur Rani Were Subconsciously Inspired By Akshay & Twinkle¡¯s Love Story?
Karan Johar reveals that the subconscious inspiration behind Rocky Aur Rani was the real story of Akshay and Twinkle.
Karan Johar¡¯s recent directorial Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was loved by the audiences, especially because of its portrayal of an unconventional relationship. Ranveer Singh played Rocky who was a flamboyant Punjabi West Delhi businessman who fell in love with Alia Bhatt¡¯s character Rani, a progressive Bengali journalist.
Where people wondered if couples like them existed, Karan in a recent interview confirmed the same.
Karan named Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna as his source of inspiration. He told Midday, ¡°Maybe subconsciously (I got inspired). They have a tremendous friendship in their marriage. I've had dinners with them, meals with them and hung out with them. And there's a terrific kind of comfort in their camaraderie.¡±
¡°He finds her hilarious and she finds him hilarious, for different reasons. So I felt it wasn't impossible for people who come from two different demographics of society, two strata, to actually find love. It's like we put ourselves in boxes. Like when we're finding a relationship, we put ourselves in places where we're comfortable. But tomorrow, you can fall in love with someone anywhere.¡±
Akshay and Twinkle began dating on the sets of Umesh Mehra's 1999 film International Khiladi and went on to marry in 2001.
Trivia: Karan¡¯s popular KKHH character Tina was written by keeping Twinkle in mind.
For the unversed, Karan and Twinkle shared the same boarding school for quite some time. KJo wrote the character Tina (after Twinkle's nickname) for her but unfortunately, she rejected it. Even though Rani Mukerji went on to essay the part, the relationship between Karan and Twinkle remained wonderful.
In the same interview, Karan broke his silence on why he quit Twitter.
The ¡®not-even-a-single-flop¡¯ director shared, ¡°That (quitting Twitter) was an instinctive decision I made when I started reading abuse to my children. When that happened¡ this is the lowest you could get. Abuse me, say what you want. They also abused my mother. My mother is still an older person.¡±
¡°My children were five at that time when I took the decision. Now, I'm not going back on this platform for anything. Of course, my company is on it. I realise the importance of Twitter. But I don't want to be on this platform. I don't want to read anything about my children. That breaks my heart not only as a parent but also as a human being.¡±
Karan welcomed twins Yash and Roohi via surrogacy in 2017.
