Why did the Tanishq advertisement celebrating sisterhood and multi-cultural marriages made us feel so uncomfortable that it became a topic of national debate? "Hindu Muslim Sikh Isai, Hum Sab Hain Bhai Bhai." Isn't this what we were taught in school? India is characterized by a diversity of religious beliefs and practices, after all.

For the unversed, Special Marriage Act of 1954 provides special form of marriage for the people of India and all Indian nationals in foreign countries, irrespective of the religion or faith followed by either party.
