Actor Priyanka Chopra who is currently putting up in Los Angeles with husband-singer Nick Jonas has shared her feelings of joy. Priyanka through her Instagram stories celebrated the decision of the New York City Mayor to make Diwali a public holiday from 2023.

The video which was originally shared by Brut India featured New York Assembly Member Jenifer Rajkumar quoting, "Today I'm proud to say our time has come, The time has come to recognize over 200,000 New Yorkers of the Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh and Jain faiths who celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights.¡±

Taking to Instagram Stories, Priyanka re-posted the video and wrote, "After all these years! My teenage self living in Queens is crying tears of joy. #representationmatters.¡± Jenifer was joined by Mayor Eric Adams in the video. Watch here:
Priyanka¡¯s overseas interaction is not a new thing. It all began when she first moved to the United States at the age of 13 for her studies.
In the US, Priyanka used to live with her aunt and switched schools between Newton, Massachusetts, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, after Queens, New York. She later returned to India after a few years to finish her high-school education at the Army Public School in Bareilly. She spoke on ¡®The Carlos Watson Show¡¯ last year and shared some memories from back in the day.

¡°I was kind of bought in by the big high schools and not having to wear uniforms. And in my school you wore uniforms. (In the US) girls wore makeup in middle school. At that time, at 12, I was like, yes, I want to study in this magical land of vanity. ¡±
"I told my mom I want to move here, and my mom¡¯s sister was very happy to take me in. So I kind of lived with my mom¡¯s sister and brother for a period of about three or four years. And they moved around in their jobs. So I lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I was in Indianapolis for a bit. I was in Queens ¡ª Flushing, Queens, actually ¡ª for a good year. Then I was also in Newton, Massachusetts, before I went back to India,¡± the Citadel actress had said back then.

Priyanka recently got an opportunity to interview US Vice President Kamala Harris where she had begun the conversation by saying ¡°I think we¡¯re both daughters of India, in a way.¡±
She was invited by the Democratic National Committee¡¯s Women¡¯s Leadership Forum where she had further quoted, ¡°You¡¯re a proud American-born daughter of an Indian mom and a Jamaican father. I am an Indian born of two physicians as parents and a recent immigrant to this country who totally still believes in the wholehearted, you know, American Dream.¡±
