Raveena Tandon Once Quit Acting For Akshay Kumar, Had An Elaborate Engagement Ceremony With Him

The co-star who shared sizzling chemistry onscreen - especially in the most memorable 90s song Tip Tip Barsa Pani - had got engaged secretly. Rumours were even rife that they were married, but were they? Raveena Tandon and Akshay Kumar have accepted on different occasions that they were secretly engaged.

Raveena had revealed Akshay wanted her to quit her career as an actor before they got married. She even obliged to this demand.

Raveena, whose love story with Akshay bloomed after the release of Mohra in 1994, spoke about her broken engagement on Rendezvous with Simi Garewal and said, "It was a voluntary decision. I was engaged to somebody I knew. This is what I wanted, to lead a very normal life. I quit in advance before marriage because we did think that when there will be last day of my shoot, we will go ahead and get married. Once I re-started my career, he again said that leave it and we will go ahead with the wedding. But, then I told him that once I chose you over my career, but now I will choose my career over you."

Were Raveena Tandon and Akshay Kumar secretly married too?

Clarifying the strong rumours at that time, the actress said, "No, there was a very elaborate engagement ceremony. With the pandit doing pooja and everything. His family had flown down from Delhi, my family came from Delhi. One of his elders had put a red dupatta on my head, and I think that was mistaken to be a wedding."

Akshay Kumar had also confessed that he was engaged to Raveena.

In conversation with Rediff, the Khiladi Kumar said, "It was only an engagement which broke up later. But excuse me, we were not married at all." He also said that they were on talking terms even after the break-up.

Akshay was accused of having multiple flings with several actresses at that point in time. It was rumoured that he dated Rekha after broken engagement with Raveena. If rumours are to be believed, he cheated on her with Shilpa Shetty.

Raveena had said that loyalty meant everything to her in a relationship but apparently, it meant nothing to Akshay Kumar.

"I think loyalty meant a lot to me, but it did not mean so much to him. He expected me to forgive and take him back every time. I did that for three years, until it was the last round", she said in an interview.

Raveena had even confessed that she caught Akshay red-handed with Rekha and Sushmita Sen and that he got engaged to two more women after her.
