Shark Tank Season 2 is all set to entertain the entrepreneurial minds of this country. The show features pitchers impressing the sharks (investors) with their best bid and raising funds to scale their business. As soon as the show¡¯s promo was out, audiences spotted a new entry on the shark panel and it was Amit Jain. But who is he?
Replacing Bharat Pe¡¯s former MD Ashneer Grover and Mama-Earth¡¯s Co-founder Ghazal Alagh, the makers have roped in a new entrepreneur judge for this season.
Entrepreneur Amit Jain is the co-founder and CEO of Car Dekho, an online portal for selling and buying used cars. Jain hails from Jaipur and is an alumnus of IIT Delhi. While working briefly in Austin, Texas, Jain started his first startup there. In 2006, Jain and his brother turned their garage into an office to launch a software outsourcing company, GirnarSoft.
On a visit to an Auto Expo in New Delhi, the Jain brothers got the ideation for CarDekho in 2008. "Our goal was to leverage technology and provide the best-in-class car buying or selling experience to the users. We set up a portal where people could come to find the right information and review cars before making the decision of buying," Jain wrote on his LinkedIn.
Amit when asked what he chooses while making tough business decisions, head or heart, gave a mindful answer.
¡°I think I am both, depending on the context. I am very objective most of the times. When it comes to people side of things, I am more heart and when it comes to business side of things, I am more head.¡± About expanding his brand to other countries, said, ¡°We are in South East Asia now. Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines are three we have already been doing business in. It's been a good start,¡± he told Hindustan Times.
Amit Jain¡¯s company CarDekho turned into a profitable venture and secured Series-A funding of $15 Million in 2013 after almost 7 years of passionate hard work. As per him, Car Dekho is currently valued at $1.2 billion. Ashneer who resigned from Bharat Pe soon after Shark Tank concluded followed by a series of controversies, was witty, outspoken and an element registered with people.
