The first season of Shark Tank India featured 7 self-made multi-millionaires of India who invested lots of money in amazing startups against a good percentage of equities.
India has become home to thousands of booming startups. Individuals from across the country are coming up with bright, out-of-the-box ideas and making their mark on the world. And the popular show Shark Tank India further added fuel to the rising aspirations of budding entrepreneurs in the country. After a kickass first season that gripped the entire nation, the makers have announced Shark Tank Season 2 and have released the first promo as well.
Anyone not living under a rock would surely know how popular Shark Tank India has become in a very limited amount of time. The show has been the catalyst that will change India¡¯s entrepreneurial landscape forever. The first season of Shark Tank India featured seven self-made multi-millionaires from the country who invested lots of money in amazing startups against a good percentage of equities.
In the first season itself, the Sharks made investments worth Rs 42 crore in a total of 67 startups. Let's find out how well these startups are doing right now:
Hammer Lifestyle
Founded by Rohit Nandwani in 2019, Hammer Lifestyle is a D2C and an FMEG (Fast Moving Electronic Goods) brand dealing in fast-paced lifestyle gadgets. The products vary from a variety of wireless earbuds, wireless headphones, wireless earphones, and smartwatches. India¡¯s first athleisure audio-wearable brand got a whopping investment of 1 crore for 40% equity from Shark Aman Gupta - and ever since the monthly sales of the company have increased from an initial Rs 70 lakh to a whopping Rs 2 crore. Isn't that great!
Auli Skincare Solutions
Founded by Aishwarya Biswas, Auli Skincare Solutions is an Ayurveda brand that deals in beauty products. In the first season of Shark Tank India, the brand received a funding of Rs 75 lakh for 15% equity from shark Namita Thapar, CEO of Emcure Pharmaceuticals.
Before Shark Tank India season 1, the brand's monthly sales were Rs 10-12 lakhs. Ever since the investment, Auli Skincare's monthly sales have increased to Rs 30-37 lakh. The brand has started retail and international export is also in the works.
¡°I think the minute I saw Namita (we were literally wearing identical clothes), I knew I had my soul sister. When she tried the products and understood what I had come there to do, I thought come what may, she would support this little dream of mine to take the value and necessity of skincare to all women and men out there.¡± Aishwarya told yourstory.
Skippi Ice Pops
Hyderabad-based startup 'Skippi Ice Pops' is founded by Ravi Kabra and Anuja Kabra. It's India's First ice pop brand that is produced with 100% RO water, natural colour and flavours. What viewers might not know is that Skippi Ice Pops was the first product on Shark Tank India season 1 to receive investment from all five sharks. The brand received Rs 1 crore funding for 15% equity.
Skippi earnings were Rs 4-5 lakh monthly with 150 visitors on the website daily. After investment from the sharks, the brand earns a whopping Rs 70 lakh monthly with 6000 to 8000 website visitors on a daily basis. Earlier, the distribution was regional but since the investment things have changed for Skippi. It has now started distribution to countries like Uganda, Nepal, Kuwait, Hong Kong and Dubai.
The brand had reportedly suffered a tremendous loss due to the Covid-19 lockdown but has made a comeback with a bang.
Get-A-Whey
Founded by Jash Shah, Pashmi Shah and their mother Jimmy Shah, Get-A-Whey is a simple kitchen experiment turned into a super healthy ice cream brand that fetched Rs 1 crores funding for 15% equity from Ashneer Grover, founder of Bharatpe, Vineeta Singh, Founder and CEO of Sugar Cosmetic and Aman Gupta, Co-founder of BOAT at Shark Tank season 1.
Before Shark Tank season 1, Get-A-Whey's monthly sales were Rs 20 lakh which have now quadrupled to Rs 80 lakh to 1 crore monthly, with distribution to 19 cities. The brand website is also taking enquiries from the middle east and European countries.
Brainwired
Founded by Sreeshankar S Nair and Romeo P Jerard, 'Brainwired' is an agro-tech startup that provides affordable and efficient livestock health monitoring and tracking systems. The founder of the brand managed to convince three sharks and received Rs 60 lakhs for 10% equity from Namita Thapar, Peyush Bansal, and Ashneer Grover.
Before receiving funds from sharks, the monthly sales for the brand were Rs 1-2 lakhs. This is now changed and how! With the help of three sharks, the brand's monthly sales have increased to an average of Rs 35 lakhs and it will soon start international export as well.
TagZ Food
Founded by Anish Basu Roy and Sagar Bhalotia a popped potato chips brand, 'Tagz Food' managed to receive funding of Rs 75 lakhs for 2.75% equity from shark Ashneer Grover at the first season of Shark Tank India and since then the brand's monthly sales have seen tripled. It's distribution has grown from six cities to 20 Indian cities along with Dubai, Kuwait and Australia.
The Sass Bar
Founded by Rishika Nayak 'The Sass Bar' is a dessert soap brand that deals with handmade soaps that look and smell like delicious desserts. Rishika managed to raise funding of Rs 50 lakhs for 35% equity from two sharks, Anupam Mittal and Shark Ghazal Alagh and since then the sale increased to Rs 10-20 lakhs which were Rs 6 lakhs earlier.
Quirky Naari
Founded by Mathura-based Malvica Saxena, Quirky Naari is India's first hand-painted denim brand that offers quirky and fashionable footwear and apparel. Malvica received Rs 35 lakh in funding for 15% equity from Anupam Mittal and Vineeta Singh at the first season of Shark Tank India.
Before coming to Shark Tank India, Quirky Naari was making monthly sales of Rs 3 lakhs with local distribution, which increased to Rs 3-7.5 lakhs. The brand has also started receiving many international orders, launched a new website that received good traffic, has a separate office & studio, and has hired more employees.
Heart Up My Sleeves
Founded by Delhi based Riya Khattar, Heart Up My Sleeves is a detachable sleeves brand that focuses on minimalism and sustainability using fancy, reusable and innovative sleeves. Two sharks, Vineeta Singh (CEO & Co-founder of SUGAR Cosmetics), and Anupam Mittal (Founder and CEO of Shaadi.com - People Group) were impressed with the idea and invested ?25 lakhs for 30% equity.
Before Shark Tank India its monthly sales were around Rs 1.5-2 lakhs with local distribution which is now increased to Rs 6-7 lakhs with distribution on Nykaa Fashion, Myntra, etc.
