Sonu Nigam has voiced his displeasure at the Padma Awards' disregard for legendary artists. He emphasised in a social media post how, in spite of their enduring contributions to music, icons like Sunidhi Chauhan, Alka Yagnik, Shreya Ghoshal, and Kishore Kumar have never been honoured with the award.

One of the most well-known playback singers in India, Sonu Nigam, has expressed his deep dissatisfaction of what he sees as the unjust exclusion of renowned performers from the Padma Awards. Nigam took to social media to voice his dissatisfaction with the seeming indifference to some of the most well-known figures in Indian music. He brought attention to the fact that vocalists who are highly regarded for their extraordinary talent and long-lasting impact on the industry, such as Sunidhi Chauhan, Alka Yagnik, and Shreya Ghoshal, have not yet been honoured with the Padma Awards.

He captioned his video ¡°India and it's pending Padma Awardees.¡±
The singer was heard saying, ¡°Do aese singers hai jinhone poore duniya ke singers ko inspire kiya hai. Ek ko toh humne Padma Shri pe hi simtaa diya hai, woh hai Mohammed Rafi sahab. Aur ek hai jinko Padma Shri bhi naseeb nahi hua hai, Kishore Kumar ji. Posthumously award mil rahe hai na.¡±
Internet agrees with Sonu Nigam
Taking to the comment section of the video, fans commented that Sonu has rightly pointed it out and that they agree with him.
One wrote, ¡°Yeh sab log khud hi Padma Awardees hain. Inko mile ya na mile koi farak ni padta.¡±
Another added, ¡°They lie under the category of Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan sir.¡±
A third went on to add, ¡°I'm not saying that you're wrong but itne dino tak yaad nahi aaya? Arijit ko mila tab yaad aaya? You're a respected artiste; jealousy doesn't suit you.¡±
