Tragedy Or Opportunity? All About The Many Biopics Being Made On Sushant Singh Rajput's Death

In the world of glitz and glamour, controversies and scandals are common, but what happened after Sushant Singh Rajput's mysterious death left the entire nation in shock. From politicians to sportspersons, everyone jumped into the bandwagon that opened a can of worms.
A rising star of India died mysteriously. While some called it a suicide, others suspected murder. No one could ignore the tragic incident that became a national debate. Several conspiracy theories emerged, and most of them were convincing. It has been almost nine months since Rajput died but what happened to him remains a mystery.

Not one or two, there are several biopic/movies being made on the life and death of Rajput as his family waits for justice to served and so does the prime accused Rhea Chakraborty and her family.
Suicide Or Murder: A Star Was Lost
One of the first films that were announced on the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, Suicide Or Murder is also the only film by far that has its lead cast announced. TikTok star Sachin Tiwari who grabbed highlight after the star's death was cast in the film that will be helmed by Vijay Shekhar Gupta. The film's poster is out too.
"The film is about how young men and women from small towns come to Mumbai with a lot of dreams. They also taste success, and when they are about to reach where they wanted to, suddenly they find other forces stopping them because those people don't want to lose their position at the top," said director Shamik Maulik to IANS.
"Sushant Singh Rajput¡¯s death by suicide came as a shock to all of us, but it is not new. Many actors who come to the industry to chase their dreams of making it big here end up not getting work. Many take this route, and some keep struggling all their lives. So, we wanted to tell a story of how actors from small towns who don¡¯t have godfathers in Bollywood struggle," Gupta had earlier shared with indianexpress.com.
Criminal Lawyer Ashok Saraogi's Nyay: The Justice
Another film titled Nyay: The Justice has also been announced, to be bankrolled by Sarla A Saraogi and Rahul Sharma of Vikas Productions. Sarla is the wife of a well-known criminal lawyer Ashok Saraogi calls it a tribute to the actor.
Cast: The film will star Zuber K Khan and Shreya Shukla in lead roles along with Shakti Kapoor essaying the role of NCB chief, Sudha Chandran as CBI Chief and Aman Verma as ED Chief. Theatre actor Kiran Kumar will essay the role of the advocate for the hero and Asrani will essay the role of Sushant's father KK Singh.
"The story mostly focuses on both Rhea and Sushant's lives -- their chemistry, their affair, living together and all that. 'Nyaay: The Justice' not only talks about justice for SSR, but justice for Rhea as well, and whoever else is getting into this case. The film speaks about justice, even though the verdict is yet to be out on Sushant's case in real life," Zuber told IANS.
Ashok Sarogi says the film will unwind the death mystery.
"Since I was involved in this case, I was representing one of the person (SSR¡¯s ex-manager Shruti Modi) in this matter, definitely I know the internal things, I know how the investigation is being done ¨C so I had to take the lead and I asked my wife to produce this film," he told News 18.
The film has already amassed controversy.
A man businessman and social worker Manish Mishra had filed a case against the film seeking a stay on the release of the movie. He alleges the producer of the film is "trying to malign the reputation of present Government of Maharashtra by way of mentioning that the Government has failed to take any steps in the death of the Mr Sushant Singh Rajput."
Nikhil Anand's crowdfunded movie
This upcoming biopic is slated to be released in 2020. The yet-untitled project is to be directed by Nikhil Anand and financed by common public funding. The film will be made in three languages -- Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
"It is painful to accept the fact that Sushant is no more with us physically. He was an inspiration to every common man who wanted to make it big. He was not only an excellent artist beyond par but also a great human being along with being an intelligent person. I hope that he is happy wherever he is. My movie on him will be a tribute to him and it's my dream now to make him immortal in the cinematic world. I also hope that it inspires more people to be a part of the industry and a change comes. I hope the negatives lessen and Bollywood gives the talent more preference over nepotism," Anand had told IANS.
As part of research and preparation for the project, Anand plans to meet Sushant's relatives, family and friends to make the movie more accurate.
Director Sanoj Mishra's Sushant
Director Sanoj Mishra, who has earlier made films like Lafange has also announced a film based on Sushant Singh Rajput's life. Titled Sushant, the film isn't a biopic, he told TOI. He said the movie is about struggling actors who come to Mumbai with big dreams of making it big in Bollywood but are often forced to take harsh steps because of harassment.
The film will star Arya Babbar in the lead role.

Sushant's family is however not supporting the film.
Rajput's sister Shweta Singh Kirti had called for a boycott of the film. Vikas Singh, who is representing Sushant¡¯s family, had voiced the family¡¯s opinions and stated, ¡°Sushant Singh Rajput's family has decided that no film/serial/book should be written/made without the expressed consent of his father and without the script being shown to him. If anyone goes against it, they will do it at their own peril. Legal action will be taken if required."
On this Sanoj Mishra told TOI, "I don't know why they have reacted in this manner. Because when this incident had happened I had visited them in Patna and hinted that I was planning to make a film on it. That was not the time when I could ask them to give me something in writing because they were facing a tragic loss. But I made an announcement from Patna and upon returning to Mumbai, I started work on this project. All this while they never said anything and made this statement now."
A documentary on Rhea Chakraborty
The prime accused in the death case of Rajput and his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty is also the subject of a documentary suggests grapevine as per a Mumbai Mirror report. The makers are hoping that Chakraborty will dish out details and her side of the story for this film.
It remains to be seen which film will do justice to the story of Sushant Singh Rajput. The fact that the cause of his death remains a mystery as the case is still open and the investigations are on, raises questions on the authenticity of the films being planned and made.
