Amid the violent protests in Bangladesh which led to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation and escape from the country, another shocking incident has come to light in which singer Rahul Ananda who lived in Dhaka's Dhanmondi 32 was attacked at his own house. The singer, who is also a cultural activist, fled the attack along with his wife and teenage son.

As reported by the Bangladeshi English-language daily newspaper Daily Star, the attackers barged into his house breaking the main gate, and looted the entire house, which was 140-year-old reportedly and was visited by French President Emmanuel Macron in 2023. The protesters took away everything they found including 3,000 handmade musical instruments, which he had designed over the years. The singer and the family who fled the attack are currently hiding at a secret place, revealed Saiful Jurnal, one of the founding members of his band Joler Gaan.

Who is Rahul Ananda?
Rahul Ananda leads the folk band Joler Gaan. Born in Moulvi Bazar in 1976, he holds a Master's degree in Fine Arts with a focus on Graphic Design from the University of Dhaka. Not just a musician, he is also a prominent actor with the Bangladeshi theater group Prachyanat. In recent years, he has participated in eight residency programs across the UK, Japan, India, Egypt, and Brazil, showcasing his talents as a visual artist, musician, and actor.

Following the incident, Joler Gaan has posted a song titled "love, peace and solidarity" on their official Facebook page. In a long caption, it was mentioned that the house acted as a recording studio for the band. "This song was the last recorded song in this room. What you see in the video, none of that exists today. Amid the unrest, music united us. This song is our parting gift to everyone," an excerpt from the caption originally written in Bengali read.
Protests in Bangladesh have escalated in the last few weeks after students protested over job quotas and demanded Sheikh Hasina's resignation. Houses of several Hindu celebrities and businesses have been torched after Sheikh Hasina fled the country.
