Europe's new vaccine passport programme -- which recognises COVID-19 vaccines to enable people to travel in and out -- does not include covishield, AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine manufactured in India, on its list.
This means that travellers vaccinated with Covishield will not be eligible for European Union's Green Pass that will be available from July 1 and won't be able to move freely for work or tourism.
Reacting to the same, actress Soni Razdan, Alia Bhatt's mother, quoted Journalist Barkha Dutt's tweet and wrote, "Totally agree. This is nothing short of disgusting and I¡¯m wondering what kind of politics has brought this on. The @WHO must intervene immediately."
Dutt had tweeted, "Frankly this is just ugly racism. Indian companies should stop manufacturing for countries that behave in this white supremacist fashion ."

Meanwhile, Adar Poonawalla, CEO of the Serum Institute of India (SII), has said that he hopes to "resolve this matter soon".
"I realise that a lot of Indians who have taken COVISHIELD are facing issues with travel to the E.U., I assure everyone, I have taken this up at the highest levels and hope to resolve this matter soon, both with regulators and at a diplomatic level with countries," he wrote on Twitter.
