Johnson-McGoldrick, who returned to write The Conjuring 3, had earlier written on Twitter that it would be a "completely different movie than the first two." He added, "The franchise is expanding beyond the 'haunted house' formula."

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will reprise their roles as Ed and Lorraine Warren. Joining them will be Sterling Jerins in the role of Judy Warren along with Megan Ashley Brown, Mitchell Hoog, Ruairi O¡¯Connor, and Sarah Catherine Hook playing pivotal roles.
James Wan won't likely direct the movie. It is said that The Curse of La Lorona director Michael Chaves will helm the project. However, James Wan and Peter Safran will serve as producers.
