Cillian Murphy Confesses Reading 'Bhagavad Gita' While Preparing For His Role In 'Oppenheimer'
Hollywood star Cillian Murphy has opened up about reading Bhagavad Gita as he prepared for his role in the film Oppenheimer.
Actor Cillian Murphy is all set to entertain audiences with his upcoming film Oppenheimer directed by Christopher Nolan. The film is based on American nuclear physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer who is credited to be the father of the atomic bomb. Unknown to many, he was an ardent follower of the Bhagavad Gita.
Now, Cillian has also openly confessed that he also read this ancient Indian scripture in order to prepare for this role.
Remember the popular quote that Murphy says in the film¡¯s trailer, "I have become death, the destroyer of worlds". It is borrowed from a popular philosophy of Gita. Cillian revealed, "I did read the Bhagavad Gita in preparation for the film. I thought it was an absolutely beautiful text. Very inspiring.¡±
¡°It was a consolation to him. He kind of needed it. It provided a lot of consolation to him all his life."
Oppenheimer is one of the highly anticipated films of Nolan who is known to have created successful flicks like Memento, Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Tenet and Dunkirk. Oppenheimer also stars Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Casey Affleck, Rami Malek, Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett and Kenneth Branagh in pivotal roles.
For the unversed, Oppenheimer is clashing with another big film Barbie which is a Greta Gerwig directorial starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
Recently, Hollywood is seeing a historic protest against the studios and producers for allegedly not paying enough to writers and actors. It was the day that the strike was announced when Oppenheimer has a special screening. In solidarity with the actor¡¯s union, several stars from this film staged a walk-out before the premiere began.
Talking about the same, Matt Damon extended his support to the SAG-AFTRA, and said, "We've got to get a fair deal." He further told Variety, "We gave the strike authorization. We voted 98% to 2% to do that because we know our leadership has our best interest at heart It's really about working actors. It's $26,000 to qualify for health coverage and a lot of people are on the margins and residual payments are getting them across that threshold. This isn't an academic exercise.¡±

¡°This is real life and death stuff. Hopefully, we get to a resolution quickly. No one wants a work stoppage, but we've got to get a fair deal." Matt's Oppenheimer co-star Emily Blunt echoed, "Obviously we stand with all of the actors and at whatever point it's called, we're going to be going home and standing together through it because I want everyone to get a fair deal."
