Eminem's mother Debbie Nelson dies at 69: Exploring their rocky relationship
Rapper Eminem's mother has passed away at 69 following a battle with lung cancer. Their up-and-down relationship over the years has remained one of the most talked about events of his personal life. However, the duo was able to reconcile their relationship in recent years.
Eminem's mother Deborah Nelson aka Debbie has died following a battle with advanced lung cancer. She was 69. Debbie died on the night of December 3 in St. Joseph, Missouri, TMZ confirmed. Her diagnosis was revealed in September, with reports revealing she didn't have long to live, the publication added. Eminem has yet to release a statement following the tragic loss.
Exploring Eminem's relationship with his mother
Over the years, Eminem's rocky relationship with his mother has made headlines several times, with the duo airing their dirty linens in public and outing some family secrets.

As a single dad, he raised his daughter, adopted two other daughters, became the legal guardian of his brother as soon as he could and is about to become a grandfather.

During his breakout years, Eminem publicly accused Debbie of being an absent parent. He also vented out at his mother in his 2002 song Cleanin' Out My Closet, rapping about his traumatic childhood and painful ordeals as a kid. He also sarcastically apologised to Debbie in the song but then eventually went on to show the ill-treatment he faced.
"I'm sorry, Mama/I never meant to hurt you/I never meant to make you cry/But tonight I'm cleanin' out my closet (One more time!)," he raps in the song.
When Eminem was sued by his mom
Eminem was sued by his mother in 1999, further denting their already strained relationship. She also wrote a tell-all 2007 memoir, My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem, which explored the ins and outs of her tumultuous bond with her son.
Attempts to reconcile
After launching scathing attacks for over a decade, the mother-son duo have made numerous attempts at reconciliation in recent years. In 2013, the rapper made his first move towards strengthening their bond with his song Headlights in which he apologised, this time genuinely, to Debbie for using harsh words against her.
