About Substance
Coralie Fargeat is the writer and director of the body horror movie The Substance. It centers on Elisabeth Sparkle (Demi Moore), a fading celebrity who uses an illegal substance that produces a younger version of herself (Margaret Qualley) with unanticipated negative effects after being dismissed by her producer (Dennis Quaid) for being too old.

Oscars 2025: Meet Coralie Fargeat, director of The Substance
Coralie Fargeat is a French filmmaker. She became widely recognized after receiving accolades from multiple independent film festivals for her first feature picture, Revenge (2017). She received three Academy Award nods for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay for her follow-up feature, The Substance (2024), a satirical body horror film, and the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Screenplay.

Short films and beyond
Le t¨¦l¨¦gramme, Fargeat's debut short film, came out in 2003 and tells the story of two women waiting for a postman to send them something during World War II. At multiple film festivals, the movie took home 13 honors.
Together with Anne-Elisabeth Blateau, Fargeat co-created and directed the comedy miniseries Les F¨¦es cloches in 2007. In 2014, Fargeat's brief follow-up, Reality+, was released. At the Tribeca Film Festival, the science fiction story was nominated for a Jury Award.
Fargeat¡¯s work only shows how amazingly talented she is but will she win an Oscar? Only time will tell.
