Known for his role in the Oscar-winning movie Parasite, South Korean actor Lee Sun-Kyun who was embroiled in a drug scandal has been found dead in an apparent case of suicide.
Best known for playing the role of Park Dong-ik, the Park family father who was a wealthy and shallow patriarch in the Oscar-winning movie Parasite, South Korean actor Lee Sun-Kyun has been found dead in his apartment in Seoul.
Is Parasite' actor Lee Sun-Kyun's death a suspected suicide?
His body was found inside a vehicle at a park in central Seoul, reported news agency Yonhap citing the Police, who arrived at the scene after receiving an emergency call from a woman who said her husband had left the house after writing what appeared to be a suicide note. "My husband had left the house after writing a note that resembles a will," she said.

While the Police are carrying out an investigation, as of now, this looks like an apparent suicide. They have found evidence of coal lighters lit inside Lee his car, which suggests that his death may have been a suicide.
The Drug Scandal
Lee Sun-Kyun was one of the Korean stars who were embroiled in drug scandals. The case was being investigated by the Police. He was accused of the alleged use of marijuana and other psychoactive drugs in October 2023.
Talking about the case, an Incheon Police Station representative was quoted as saying, "It was true that Lee Sun Kyun did marijuana, and paid a huge amount of money to his drug dealer. Although we need to investigate, we suspect that the reason for the extortion from his dealer was because of his fame."
Lee Sun-Kyun's apology
Before entering the station for investigation, he was quoted as saying, "I sincerely apologise for causing great disappointment to many people by being involved in such an unpleasant incident. I feel sorry for my family, which is enduring such difficult pain at this moment. Once again, I sincerely apologise to everyone."
Dropped from projects
Following the drug allegations, he was losing out on a lot of projects. It was reported that he was being dropped not only from television but also from commercial projects.
Actor's agency's response
In response to the allegations, the actor's agency HODU&U Entertainment in a statement said, "Hello. This is HODU&U Entertainment. First and foremost, we would like to express our sincere apologies for the concerns caused by the reports regarding our artist Lee Sun-kyun. Our company is currently in the process of verifying the specific facts related to the allegations raised against Lee Sun-kyun. We are committed to cooperating fully with any investigations conducted by relevant authorities with utmost sincerity and honesty in the future. Additionally, Lee Sun-kyun has filed a complaint with the law enforcement agency against individual A, who is connected to the incident, for continuous blackmail and threats. Future updates on this matter will be communicated through our legal representative. We ask for your understanding."
Lee Sun-Kyun is survived by his wife and actress Jeon Hye-jin and two sons.
