Ram Gopal Varma Reacts To Oppenheimer's Bhagavad Gita Controversy; Takes A Dig At Indians
Ram Gopal Varma has praised Christopher Nolan's new film Oppenheimer in a series of tweets from Sunday. However, being an outspoken filmmaker, it was only a matter of time before he shared his opinion on the film's Bhagavad Gita controversy in another tweet.
Renowned filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma recently took to Twitter to express his admiration for Christopher Nolan's latest film, Oppenheimer.
However, given Varma's outspoken nature, it was only a matter of time before he weighed in on the ongoing Bhagavad Gita controversy surrounding the movie.
On Monday, Ram Gopal Varma took to Twitter to share, "Irony is that an American nuclear scientist Oppenheimer read the Bhagwad Geeta, which I doubt even 0.0000001 % of Indians read."
The tweet refers to a controversial scene in the film where the protagonist, J. Robert Oppenheimer (portrayed by Cillian Murphy), known as 'the father of the atomic bomb,' recites a verse from the holy Hindu scripture Bhagavad Gita right after a lovemaking scene with his girlfriend (played by Florence Pugh).
In the comment section of Ram Gopal Varma's tweet, a user agreed with his remark, "That too in Sanskrit, after learning Sanskrit."

Another comment read, "We¡¯ve heard enough Bhagavath Geetha interpretations from others than reading it once with our interpretation unbiased and unprejudiced."
Another user reacted to the objections raised by a section of the internet regarding how the scene unfolds.
They wrote, "Indians are more worried about showing the Bhagavad Gita in a bedroom."
On the other hand, a different user opposed Ram Gopal Varma's remark and wrote, "Many Indians have read the Bible which I doubt 0.000000001% of Americans have ever dared to read...doesn't mean a thing RGV..."
Another remark read, "Bigger irony is that it includes you too, sir!"
The scene in the film angered the audience in India, leading many to express their anger online and criticize Christopher Nolan for hurting religious sentiments.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur has taken a strong stance on the controversial scene, as reported by news agency ANI. In response to the objectionable content, he has demanded complete accountability from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The Minister has instructed the filmmakers to remove the controversial scene from the film promptly. He also warned that strict action would be taken against all CBFC members involved in approving the screening of the movie, according to ANI sources.
