Suriya¡¯s Kanguva to premiere on OTT earlier than planned after a disastrous box office run?
Kanguva, directed by Siva, has emerged as one of the biggest flops of the year. Now, reports suggest that it may premiere on OTT just four weeks after its theatrical release. This, however, is yet to be confirmed.
Suriya¡¯s Kanguva, which hit the screens on November 14, ended up being one of the most disappointing releases of the year. The fantasy action drama, shot on a budget of nearly Rs 300 crore, has underperformed at the box office. Moreover, it has received negative reviews with critics panning the weak screenplay. Now, it seems that its lacklustre performance may result in the film premiering on OTT earlier than planned.
Kanguva to premiere on OTT prematurely after disastrous theatrical run
Siva¡¯s highly ambitious Kanguva was supposed to premiere on OTT eight weeks after its theatrical release. However, according to a report carried by Koimoi, it may be available for streaming in just four weeks. Its forgettable box office performance is said to be the reason for this.
The film earned a mediocre Rs 1.15 crore (nett) at the domestic box office on Saturday(November 23), its 10th day. This took its total collection Rs 66.15 crore. These figures are simply not good enough given its budget and the pre-release hype. That said, the makers are yet to issue an official statement regarding the plans for its OTT release.
