Vidaamuyarchi: 4 movies to avoid watching if you plan to catch Ajith Kumar's action thriller in theatres
Vidaamuyarchi, starring Ajith Kumar and Trisha, is set to hit the screens today (February 6). Here is a look at four films fans need to avoid watching if they want to fully enjoy the action thriller, which is directed by Magizh Thirumeni, in theatres.
Ajith Kumar's Vidaamuyarchi, one of the biggest and most talked about films of the year, is set to hit the screens today (February 6) much to the delight of fans. The action-thriller has become the talk of the town as it features the mass hero in a new avatar that does justice to his reel image. The fact that it is Ajith's first release after Thunivu (2023) too has worked in its favour
With that, here is a look at X films Ajith fans should avoid watching before catching Vidaamuyarchi in theatres.
Viswasam (2019)
Viswasam was a career-defining film for Ajith Kumar as it emerged as a massive commercial success despite facing competition from Rajinikanth's Petta. Moreover, it helped AK further consolidate his standing as a mass hero. However, watching it ahead of Vidaamuyarchi isn't a great idea as its setting is completely different from the one in Magizh Thirumeni's thriller. Viswasam was a 'pakka rural drama' with a distinct desi flavour. Vidaamuyarchi, on the other hand, is a Hollywood-esque thriller set in Azerbaijan.
Ji (2005)
Ajith Kumar is paired with Trisha Krishan in Vidaamuyarchi. The two have previously collaborated on quite a few successful films. However, Lingusamy's Ji is not one of them. The political action thriller hit the screens in 2005 after facing several delays and bombed at the box office. Moreover, it received mediocre reviews with critics stating that the screenplay did not do justice to the lead pair's abilities.
Breakdown (1997)
Ajith Kumar's film is a remake of the Hollywood crime thriller Breakdown, which featured Kurt Russel in the lead. Watching the English-language crime thriller before Vidaamuyarchi isn't an advisable move because it can lead to comparisons between the two films. This, in turn, may dilute the impact of Vidaamuyarchi
In case you did not know, Breakdown was directed by Jonathan Mostow and centred on the protagonist's attempts at rescuing his wife from a gang. It received positive reviews and made a fair impact at the box office.
The Vanishing (1993)
This George Sluizer-directed thriller's premise was very similar to the one seen in Breakdown. As such, those who revisit Jeff Bridge's film before catching Vidaamuyarchi in theatres may not be able to fully enjoy some of the plot elements and twists. Interestingly,
The Vanishing was a remake of Sluizer's 1988 Dutch psychological thriller of the same name.
