Vidaamuyarchi is off to a good start
Ajith Kumar, one of Tamil cinema's biggest stars, is in the limelight because of his latest film Vidaamuyarchi. The film opened to a terrific response at the domestic box office yesterday. According to Sacnilk, a trade website, it earned Rs 22 crore (nett) in India yesterday. A large chunk of this came from Tamil Nadu.
The film benefitted from the lack of competition and Ajith's star power. It, however, received mixed reviews with critics lauding the performances but panning the screenplay. It remains to be seen whether this affects Vidaamuyarchi once the initial buzz fades. That said, the Tamil remake of Breakdown is expected to face no competition till Dhanush's Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam opens in theatres on February 21.
